Not to jump in here again but little tip keep an eye on nordic marksman and when they get those colt 6920 oems in. That is as good a deal as you are getting for a quality ar. Plus you get to then get the handguard you want along with the stock you want out of the get go and bypass the hassle of trying to move unwanted parts.
So following the advice and I picked up a Colt OEM kit from Nordic. I also got a handguard and optics off EE. Now I just need to find a suitable buttstock, and perhaps a set of BUIS sometime down the line to complete my AR.
However I do have another question. Is it safe to remove and reinstall the barrel nut by clamping down on the barrel? The handguard I bought from EE use a KMR barrel nut, so I need to change out the standard USGI barrel nut that came with the rifle. A kind CGNer has lend me a set of barrel and toque wrenches, and I do have access to a bench vice, just no action rod or upper vice block. I read somewhere you can just put the barrel in the vice to do it, and I just wanna ask what's you guys' opinion on this.
You can do it that way - and it may even be mentioned in some armourers texts to do it that way. But it's also a good way to scrape up your barrel, and pretty guns shoot more accurately. < j/k
A Magpul BEV block is not expensive and will last a long time, or for the same cost or less pay a shop to do it.
Buy the tools, do the job right.
