How to give up shooting-FAST

Reasons for using the nitrocellulose-based smokeless in muzzle loaders are the same reasons you use the powers in your cartridge rifles. Better performance (muzzle velocity) due to burning slower, much easier to clean (and non-corrosive), and the bonus that the material is inherently a little more stable.

I don't shoot muzzle loaders (altho I might, it would give me another week of deer season in my WMU), but my impression is that the misconception is more common than one would like to think. "I've been shooting muzzle loaders for YEARS, I know how to load them," and end up like the picture, or worse.

black powder burns slowly in a barrel just like any other powder. the only reason for these muzzleloaders is to sell to people who are too lazy to clean the dam gun after its been fired

I've been shooting muzzle loaders since 1974 , and have all my body parts. I have double balled , double loaded powder and my TC worked and performed fine.I think you could fill a dedicated muzzeloading barrel with BP and it would simply blow it all out in a nice fireball.Using smokeless in a muzzeloader is a sin.;);)
That said , I will take note of those pics and remember them well.

PS, in those 40 years , I have never seen or heard of that kind of mishap in any of the BP functions I have attended.

Thats sucks - I am surprised that a manufacturer would OK the use of smokeless in a ML in todays world. Met a fellow once a long time ago that put pistol powder in a ML while drinking back in the 70's . Disfigured for life.
The Savage 10ML is designed to use smokeless or black. Properly loaded it is completely safe. Improperly loaded, it, like any other firearm can result in damage

when I visit Cabelas and browse muzzleloader. one saleperson talk about one muzzleloader that can accept either smokeless and black powder (not same time) and come with 2 different measurement cup.

this is what he talk about

people would screw up on measurement, and lost fingers in process.

what I am not sure is that he said company stop to make them due to liability.

Lots of guys at my range shoot smokeless Muzzle loaders, the Savage 10ML being the most popular. They all have their fingers due to their ability to follow instructions and heed warnings. The 250 yard max PBR is what it's all about. :)

That is terrible, I really never got the point of firing muzzle loaders in this day and age. Rather just toss a ready made bullet in to a store bought gun, and safely pull the trigger. Just seems like alot of work, and room for errors for me.

I did BP muzzle loading (with a flintlock) for 10 years before I got my first "modern" rifle (1934 Mosin Nagant) last year.

It's just a lot of fun... and every shot counts !!!

At least the barrel looked to be well designed channeling the over pressure into controlled destructive force instead of a million shrapnel.
