Nice comment Deckard,
you have to be blind as a bat to think thats nice woodworking.I was just stating the obvious. It is a cool rifle.:cool:Im saying it would look cooler with a nice foregrip.

Actually I believe he did great as well. Given that he has stated he is not a wood worker it matches the grip in the pic quite closely. Try to be more constructive when criticizing.

OK come guys NO fighting. Like I said my first time working with wood, I see there are some people bashing the finished product but all I see from them are copies of what everyone already has, you know parts that any numb nut with a couple of pennies can order from your local gun store and install themselves. So anytime you wanna start shooting off your mouth please start the post with something you have made with your bare hands.:owned:

Actually if you look at vintage Russian furniture it was all very rough and crude workmanship by modern western stantards. Function over form, these were produced by the thousands on old equipment and starvation wages.

The only difference is the originals were one peice, not two. That said the second incarnation of something is always better than the first. You learn a few things, pick up a few tricks.

I think its well researched and original work. I also think you're likely to start seeing a few copies which is the most sincere form of appreciation.

Some douches think if it wasn't laser cut, measured and stamped it can't be right. Some just don't like the red rifles. With the 50' to 80's era Russian wood it was rarely the same quality from plant to plant and almost never well finished. You were lucky not to pick up splinters(an exageration, but you get the point).

Keep it up amigo, I'd like to see what else you have for ideas come to life. Just keep in mind its an open forum and opinions are like hemorroids, every a hole has one eventually (including mine:D)

My only thought on the project is that the stock could sit higher on the hinge, so the the bottom of it was even with the bottom of the receiver. I think the lines would flow better that way.

Nice work!
Cant really say im digging the thumbhole-grip-handguard-thingy though.
There were NEVER any short-barreled AK's with a handguard like that from the factory. Even if you like it, seems rather weird to me to go through all the trouble to fit the original stock, pg, mags to make it look like the real krink, while going with an aftermarket-looking handguard. It would look a lot cleaner and genuine with a "normal" handguard IMO.
Are you modifying the waffle mags to fit, or the receiver to accept the AK mags?

Ever thought of buying a non-restricted M78 x39 Valmet and building one of these using the Valmet receiver? This way you would have a REAL krink. I've been toying with this idea myself but i just dont have the heart to cut up a $6000 rifle.

............

Key word in my post was "factory". I guess i should've made it bold... I can show you pictures of all kinds of cool looking handguards on AK's, but no handguards like that were factory made on short barreled AK's. Feel free to correct me if im wrong.
Actually, now that i think about it, i can't recall ANY AK's (short, std, or long barrel) leave the factory with a handguard like that, but since the thread is about Krinks (improper term of western origin, btw), this is not relevant.

I'm modifying the waffle mags luckily they have a metal insert that will let me weld to them. 6k plus trying to find the short barrel will be the hardest part of that build

Nice work!!!:) I had the exact same idea but you beat me to the punch (my gunsmith has been too busy to finish my project, and I don't have the skill to do it myself). Darn it all! :(

I will give you a tip that will make your krink look-a-like-complete ( as I'm working on it myself): Make a thread adapter (or modify the ones that are available for sale) so that you can use the real 24mm x 1.5 threaded krinkov muzzle device to attach to your rifle. It can be recessed so that the barrel looks shorter too when the muzzle device is attached.

Or, the mod can be done when the compact models come out.

Anyway, congrats on the creative work. I hope you (or others) can use the above idea.
