To cut down the barrel on an already restricted VZ58 would be easy in theory since the gunsmith wouldn't even need to take it off.
I think that would make it prohib.

The problem facing the shorty 858's is that there is not enough preasure build up in the barrel to cycle the rifle's action. Hence why we are still waiting for the 7.5 inch barreled rifle's. Although to have a rifle's barrel between 11 to 12 inches is easy to do as you are not changing the original design of were the gas port is. The only modification that is required is to have the vent hole enlarged to make sure that it will still cycle all that metal part's of this rifles action. As even noticed on the AR platform when having an extremly short barrel for a semi-auto rifle. The cycling of the action can be quite problematic. As for the 858 and a 7.5 inch barrel I still think they will need to reduce the spring preasure increase the vent whole and also use different metal make up for the bolt carrier in order to cycle it properly. Hence why it is still in the R&D/testing phase as I am sure that the company who is producing it would like it to be as reliable as the other current platforms out the today with that same size barrel length's.Which one has the shorter gas system and why?

have a smith permenantly attach a 3 inch flash hider
please explain to me how they would make it restricted or stop spewing this crap.
just buy a new 15" or 11.75" and be done with this. In the long run you wont really save any cash or time doing it. Just buy new.
It doesn't work that way in Canada...
Sell the restricted one on the EE and buy a non-restricted 858. You might even be able to do a trade for a NR one.
Right now you have a restricted $700 gun... rebarrelling it will cost you $300+ and get you a non-restricted $700 gun...
