How to tell a Wichester Short action from a long.

The distance between the action screws is the measurement you need.
Older Winchesters only came in one length ,long.
If it's a pushfeed or a pre 64 it's probably long.
just checked the length of the floorplate on my .375 apx 4.75"
If yours is about 1/2" shorter it 's short.

Whats is the measurement to tell a winchester short action from a Long action.? Where/how do I measure from.?

.243 could be a short action, but not necessarily. For quite a few years winchester made everything in just one action size. I think all the pre-64s are long, and most of the push feeds were long, but not all of them. I own a mid eighties M70 push feed .223 short action.

The guard screws are 3" apart? That's a special run super super super short action.:D

Measure the distance between the very front and rear guard screws. I'm guessing though from your ejection port measurement that it's a long action.

If it's a M670 it doesn't have bottom metal, just a trigger guard. Blind mag, like a rem M700 ADL.

It was made for a few years in the late 60s to early 70s. Blind magazine, push feed. I'm pretty certain it's a long action. They didn't start making any short actions until USRA took over in the early 80s, and the M670 was long gone by then. (IIRC)

I think your right.I does have a blind mag and down feeds
I bought gun years ago at an auction ( poachers gun)
I just remeasured
its 3.99 inches from rear trigger guard screw to front trigger guard screw
its 4.55 inches from front trigger guard screw to forearm screw

The M670 243 is a long action if you look at the inside of the mag you will see a piece add to sit the cartridges ahead in the mag.a longer bolt stop was used to shorten the bolt stroke.the one i owned had a blonde stock.basicly the economy version of the 70.
