How to turn a $6000 gun into a $150 gun

do they really enjoy ruining pieces of history?!??!

They were history! grampa fought at Caenes (sp) and I have a pic of him working on a matched pair of engraved bubba jobs 20 years later.
Also know of a family snider that was in service and became a bubba job and was being hunted a couple generations later.

Bubba is just an extension of the history not a detriment to it.

Cool post David.

I was in the bush with a buddy yesterday shooting his No. 1 Mk III.

I have a 1972 catlogue from United Army Surplus in Winnipeg that lists a Lee Enfield sniper rifle with scope and case for $75.00.

I had just returned from a trip abroad and already had a 303 so never even considered it. Besides, that was a lot of money and I wanted to save for my next trip.

The regular No. 1 Mk III in your choice of full stock or "sporterized" was $27.00

Actually, I bought it because I have carte blanche to do whatever to it without feeling guilty. Hell, if you are going to work on a sporter, it might as well be a sniper.

It made sense at the time. There were millions of these things floating around the surplus market and could be picked up at your local surplus store for $6 by some accounts. They made the perfect rifle for people who wanted a rifle for hunting at a cheap price. They then customized them to their needs.

You'll notice a similar trend with SKSs, albeit less frequently because gun ownership in general has declined.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the actions, just trying to provide some context for the period.

The funny part is im thinking of bubba'ing my sks when i get it hahaa

Something we really have to watch is what our Government seems to be doing. Our local RCMP chop up every single thing they can find, court order or no. Recently, they sent a 1915 London Small Arms SMLE with a near-perfect bore to the welding-shop to be cut across with the oxy-acetylene torch. No court order, either. Enough to make you bloody well CRY. Small wonder they don't shoot at our local range.
.

...you have our attention. Go on...

If you post the serial # I will look it up to see if it is listed in surviving records, Dale in T-Bay. Just for kicks Guns & Ammo No 4-T 79.99 with case and accesories!!

Number one reason I wish our local ranges refused to rent to the RCMP...but no for some people money talks over ethics and commons sense.

I have a new, in the grease, never unwrapped No. 4 barrel cached away against the day that something like that comes my way......
