Howa mini action mag release

Very nice. Fit and finish looks good. I’d imagine there’s a lot less flex in the foreend than on the Hogue synthetic stocks. Wood looks like beech or possibly maple?
With the Jefferson bottom metal that makes a very nice rifle.

If Howa made one with a 20” barrel I’d be all over that, but the 22” is still tempting.

FWIW, I believe Weatherby vanguard bases fit the Howa mini action.

I *think* they advertise it as walnut but in good lighting its lighter colour even still. Guessing its a lower grade of Turkish walnut, personally.

And yep! You're right. For the Talleys, it would indeed be Vanguard bases.

Howa mini action stocks - I am very impressed with the stock that came on my Mini 7.62x39.

The Howa synthetic stocks are described as an 'HTI' stock in the literature, which really doesn't tell you anything. It is extremely stiff, with no flex with a bipod or anything else, the barrel is certainly free floated. The profile is very similar to the Howa Hogue ones, but without the overmolded rubber. They have aluminum pillars and feel great (at least for me).

Especially for lighter cartridges, it's more than stiff enough.

Right on :) Thanks!

One of the reason I am going to the Jefferson Outdoors bottom metal (hinged or blind, but internal mag either way yeah) is because its long enough to accept a 7.62x39mm bullet loaded with a Barnes 110 or 120 gr Tac-Tx or Hornady 110gr CX, all of which are meant for the 300 Blackout at those velocities.

What you mentioned doing with yours sounds like a good idea!
I just did the same(J.O. hinged floorplate mag) on my .223 mini action so I can seat longer, heavier for caliber bullets in it. It's pretty nice. Have a bunch of 77gr TMK's I need to work up a load with. I'd like to try the 75gr ELD-M's as well at some point.

Also want to replace the stock, thinking a B&C Sporter or perhaps a Stocky's carbon stock if I want to pay $$ and also pay again tohave someone import the damned thing. Would make for a light rifle with that Stocky's stock though.

Awesome! I hope it shoots well! Its a shame their plastic mags keep ya to AR overall length constraints and you don't even get to use AR mags in it!

Have thought of both the lightweight stock and the B&C here too. Tough call eh. Would be a BB gun, ridiculously light. JBMauser here on the forum did an awesome 7.62x39 ultralight build.

Doesn't help a fellow not spend money haha

Bought a 223 Mini a week ago. Read the issued with the mag release if you carried the rifle, the release was open and if you caught it just right you would drop the mag.
I looked at both the wood stock and the plastic stock rifles, the wood stock rifle had an open release and the plastic stock the release was protected. I chose the plastic stock for that reason. I have lost a couple mags on my Ruger American rimfires until I changed the mag release.
That being said I can't wait till I can get a proper flush bottom metal to get rid of that mag.
I love the rifle but hate the magazine.

So, since I did trash the earlier versions, its only fair to give the new one props. Received a stainless, wood stocked 7.62x39 today and its the first time I get to use the redesigned mag release. Its horizontal instead of vertical, and I think more secure, harder to release the mag by accident. And the mag has fed fine, even with a box of PPU round nose.

I'll still replace it with Jefferson bottom metal...but its a worthy upgrade on their part.
Joel, how long did it take to get the Jefferson bottom metal?

Not Joel obviously, but I ordered one for my .223 mini probably 5 or 6 weeks back and had it in my hands in ~2 weeks after placing the order iirc. That hinged floorplate mag is a nice upgrade, no regrets in dropping the money to get it.

Nice! Hopefully the new batch comes out soon!

The 308 sizer they put in with my Lee 7.62x39 die set sucks, so I replaced it with one from a 300 BLK die. Hoping to load some 110gr CX and 120gr Tac-Tx bullets soon

What length barrel on that rifle? Any more pics? I’ve toyed with getting a stainless version myself, ideally with 20” if that’s possible in stainless. Also, how’s the wood stock? I’ve been trying to find one but to no avail.

Should be a nice rig!
I don't know if PR still has any but the stainless 7.62 barreled actions they were selling had a 20" pencil barrel.
