Howdy from Utah Canadian EBR lovers !

VCRMack I am the exact opposite...Utahn living in Alberta. I bounce between the two but have been in Edmonton for about 13 years. I terribly miss Utah and love it each year when I go back. There is no place like home!

That's pretty funny - hopefully they're all treating you right up there . What part of Utah are you from ?

Wow ! How do you really feel ? Just kidding - good points above . I never had any issues with the medical system when I was there , and no lie I've broken 17 bones in my life . I know it has gotten much worse . My medical insurance here is $784.00 / month for myself , my wife and 5 year old daughter . Last summer I blew my knee down here which led me to surgery on May 27th - waited a month and a half for my surgery here , with two months of rehab following. My total out of pocket expenses with the best available insurance down here ? $5000.00 ( not including the 4 months of insurance premiums paid during the wait and rehab ) . My wife is pregnant right now and our deductible for the birth ? $6500.00 ( again on top of the insurance premiums every month ... ) sooooooo , I'm having an interesting introduction to the health care system so far .

I love the States and have nothing but respect for Americans . We are America's hat as you said , but it seems sometimes like they don't notice that for the most part we stand behind them .

Soooooooo

(784*12=9408) 9408 + 5000 + 6500 = $20,908.00

That's just as a one time figure, as the knee surgery won't be happening yearly I hope, and I'm assuming you're not going to be having a kid yearly for your adult life either :)

How much were the wife's, the businesses, and your income taxes up here, vs. down there...? ;)

Good job on the math ENIGMATIC1, but this doesn't tell the whole story.

In January of this year I went to the States for a back operation that took me less than 1 week to arrange. It cost me $US 30,000.00 and has resulted in a complete cure of the problem. YOU CAN'T GET IT HERE ,, not under medicare, not privately, not after a long wait, not ####ing ever !

What you do get here is a list of exercises you can't do because of the pain and pain pills that either don't work or turn you into the intellectual equivalent of a fence post. My bill for this is a tax rate many times higher than it cost to correct the problem in the states.

We're a G8 nation for Christ's sake! Our level of medical care is shameful.

My advice? Stay in Utah or stay healthy.

The northern paradise you speak of. ...

Wow I cant believe you guys want to leave so bad... We have it pretty dammed good as Canadians.... I love it here in Alberta and my "Mexico" is BC when I want hot sun and beaches.......Onagoth your just upset cuz it takes days for an ATT , just do yourself a favor and move to AB or BC your paradise awaites....

is shrinking every day. I am from Ontario originally but came out to Alberta when I was 17 for the first time. I knew then that this was the place for me. I have been here now for over 13 years. This paridise is shrinking and shrinking fast.

Now I know that I can't say much about because I am one of these immigrants from Ontario but over the last few years, we have had an influx of people move to Alberta and it is a changing. Both landscape and politically. In the major cities, we are getting a more liberal demographic and it is changing Alberta into little Ontario.

I moved here for what it was 20 years ago. It is getting harder and harder to find that. I just found out that my wifes cousin moved out to Calgary. He is one of these metrosexual type of guys. This is what will be the downfall of Alberta. I find that the only time you can go into cowtown and feel confortable is during Stampede week. Maybe I have it wrong but moving south of the border is sounding better and better all the time.

Now that I am finished with my rant, welcome to the board. I know how you feel. Stay in Utah and stay a Canadian. You have the best of both worlds.

Are you serious? did you see the last election? this province is more BLUE now then ever, almost every riding won conservitive.... Sure there are going to be problems, No country is perfect. However by comparison I think we are up there in terms of quality of life.

You American wannabes should take a hike :p :canadaFlag:

Yes, I saw the last election. Almost every riding is the quote. I really don't see it much longer though. I think we will be slipping in the next few elections. Don't get me wrong, Alberta is better than some places but things can change quickly and I think that they could here unfortunately.

Boy you nailed it. I'm a born and raised Albertan, but that last few years have brought an influx of people from everywhere. I don't mind the people coming, we have the have the room , the work (well, did have the work), and needed the tax base........but many brought their bulls**t mentality with them and settled in for the long haul.

If this continues, in one more generation Alberta will be irreversibly f**ked.

Every citizen able and willing to act in an emergency becomes a potential defender against attacks aimed at the general population. Unfortunately, because of the anti-gun folly of the leftist media and politicians, we have lost sight of this vital element of our defense... The anti-gun crowd seeks to establish a modern version of [the medieval era], a kind of bureaucratic feudalism, in place of the republican self-government established by our Constitution... The answer is not gun control, but self-government, self-defense, and self-control. We must act to live as free people, else like sheep for the slaughter, we will die, and freedom with us." -- Alan Keyes

Your absolutely right. I can see it already. I am raising my kids Albertan. The boy has a few rifle already and we are working on his mindset and being able to get past the bull#### in an issue and solving the issue at hand. The little girl is younger but will be the same.

And by the way , Obama is officially the gun and ammo salesman of the year . For the last while ammo shelves have literally been EMPTY and the price of all of the evil firearms went through the roof . You wouldn't believe the gunshop stories from around here since he has been in office with all of the fear of another AWB down here.

It appears that the panic time is over , everything is back on the shelves except for ammo . It is still pretty difficult to find - .380 forget it , .45 good luck , 9mm if you have good timing and 7.62 not a chance.

Wolf 7.62 was $4.99 / box pre Obama and has been $10.99 for a while , if you can even find a single box.
I'm assuming you mean 7.62x51...?

Oh I know.

Just to get started on the horror stories of Canadian healthcare:

A guy I know went to the hospital with a chunk of steel in his eye. Was told to come back tomorrow

Another guy I know went in with a broken collarbone. Got xrays done. Got sent home, and told the regular: if there is anything wrong with the xrays, we will give you a call, otherwise follow up appointment in 2 weeks. No phonecall. Came back 2 weeks later. Doctor says, oh, I guess I should look at those xrays. As he's looking at them he says, "Oh.. this is not good. Well, too late now."
Collar bone grew together overlapping by an inch and a half.

When I go see the Dr's here I have to explain to them what blood levels of certain things mean.

MRI wait time is what, right around 2 years?

Sleep clinic wait time is over 2 years.

After open heart surgery, you're told that you'll be staying there and monitored for at least 10 days. Come day 6 they are already pushing to get you out, and turning your private room into a public one.

Christ, we don't even have the availability to administer clot busting drugs in the case of a stroke. That one REALLY ####ing pisses me off.

Bottom line is, you get what you pay for. We pay a hell of a lot, problem is, where is our receipt for goods/services received?

I've noticed that standards are definitely dropping in the walk-in clinics as Canada is admitting & certifying more & more foreign "doctors";) who want to stick their snouts into the taxpayers medicare trough.

It seems like a witch doctor diploma from Bangladesh U will get you a Canadian green card & the keys to both a hospital operating theater & a Porsche these days.

No , 7.62 X 39 . I hope it comes back soon . What happened and is still happening now , is that everyone freaked out and started stockpiling everything they could find anticipating ammo prices going through the roof , causing this insane period of price gouging and no availability .

I can get .223 and 9mm now , but even .22lr is hard to get sometimes ( the bulk packs anyway . Walmart down here has put a 3 box limit on handgun ammo because guys would come in when the shipment would arrive and buy the whole pallet of something like 9mm . Normally at WM a 100rd pack of Winchester white box was $19.97 , but guess where the pallets the guys were buying showed up ? Gun shops and gun shows , but now conveniently priced at $45.00 / box.

I just scored a case of WOLF 7.62 X 39 for $228.46 , it was all they had and I will not be shooting any of it until I can find it around more.

Bountiful. I did my undergrad at Weber and lived in Ogden for that. Worked summers at the marina up at East Canyon by Park City. Still have tonnes of family there...

I was down there in April and there was no 7.62x39 ANYWHERE!!!! Crazy.

A few things about that, I for one have never had any real heathcare issues nor has anybody close to me, I guess we were the lucky ones....

First of all people need to start taking more responsibility for their health and health treatment, just agreeing with everything a doctor or nurse says is just plain idotic... One must ask questions and get answers and hold these heathcare professionals accountable for there actions....

-First off if you dont step up and demand better solutions when you have a chunk of steel in your eye is your own damm stupidity... All it takes is asking for a second opinion most of the time...

-I have friends who have broke their collar bone's and thats how it is my friend they let it heal broke and you have a bump for the rest of your life simple as that.... Further more I have just recently broke my collar bone more severely then others and at first the ER doctor just told me let it heal your guna have a bump... I however was not satisfied with this as my collar bone broke in two places.. I went to my Family Doctor 2 days later and got an appt. with an orthopedic surgeon 2 days after, he gave me the risks, the pros and cons, and we both decided it best to fix it.. I had surgery later that day.... because this injury was the result of a vehicle accident I also got a CT scan done a day after my surgury.....

-I have also had an MRI in a weeks time not months no BS
