Saw four deer on that 3hr walk.
As I aproached the artisan spring at the back of the property I went over a little rise. The doe spotted me right away, swapped ends and exited warp 9. The six point buck with her, he was not quite with it, maybe had something else on his mind. Didn't see me, reacted to her departure by running straight at me. Got to about thirty feet, and stopped to look at me. I was making like a tree, but the insulated blue jeans don't quite fit in. He jumped to the side, and stopped broadside to look at me again, before lowering his tail and walking away.
The other two I saw, one was just a tail bounding off, the other, I saw get up off her bed under a big pine tree. She stood broadside on, and watched me for about fifteen seconds, my wife caught up to me, and off the deer ran.
Damn, I gotta try deer hunting on snow shoes. so quiet! Just need an good earlier snow.

Not as cold here, but the deer who live in the neighbourhood are doing very well.

That is the mom, her daughter from a year ago, and her little buck and doe from this year.

I've got mulies and moose in my yard almost on the daily , and nothing but natural browse attracting them. They look fat and healthy here on the fringe of the northern tip of that elephant hill fire.
I should get some game cams set up back there , I'd like to get some pics of the cougar that frequents as well.

What else did you expect?..... they are mammals, they need to eat and they need to intract.....

What would you do when the cold comes?..... they will definitely find easy high calorie food sources during these conditions.....

My record on the back yard is 27 deer...... have two decent shooters frequenting it now...... although one dropped his antlers just before New Years..
