HU: Norinco '.22 KKW Trainer' (now with pics)

The best I managed a 2" 5-shot group at 25 yds but my rear sight was off to the left at the time and I was not near the bullseye. It was wobbly so I had some reproducibility issues for sure. (heck my S&W 41 handgun shoots better than that)

That's fixed up now so we'll see how it does. With any rimfire, some ammo testing is in order too. Most are pretty fussy. I'm just using the cheapie Federal hollow points until I get the sights dialed in.

Oh, and I also have a 3/4" tube 4x scope for it now. Side mount is coming by mail.

Nice little scope.
Quite similar to the one that came on the scoped Norinchos.
Too bad about the parallax.

Yeah, I figured I have to fight with that small clearance
between the bolt and the scope.
Siderail it is! I will have to make one  dam...

Its an old Weaver sidemount for flat sided receivers. I'm going to do some custom work on it to see if I can get it to mount in the two screw holes for the side mount. I'll post if/when I get it to work.

If not, I'll keep looking for some high rings. With a 3/4" tube, I don't have as many worries about clearing the bolt. I wanted something more vintage looking though it won't be as bright as a large objective scope.

I like the idea of "vintage looking".

I will tell you some of the things i found.
This is a type of ring from Kwik site.
¾” – 1” reversible. I don’t know if it fits the 11.7mm rail,
but you can google kwik sites and call them.

Feel free to google Warne rings too.
As for me, I didn't have any luck to find anything reasonable.

The pain with the vertically split rings is that
they do not cover a whole range of rail widths,
no matter what they say in the advertisement.
The result is that if the claws will not fit properly the rail,
then the top is not going to offer a continuous round surface
for the scope to sit in.

The same as with this pos here.

And this one, in addition, has the window too low for the gun.
tu_rail_7.jpg

I don’t know where I have it from, it must have come
on a gun I bought used and already scoped,
because I don’t remember buying on purpose this horribility.

I also tried a picatinny, but I need a much lower one than this. This one is too high.
Even if I cut a relief channel in it to see the sights
and even use rings open on the bottom, the cross bar (screw)
that tightens the ring on the rail, will be in the way of seeing the sights.

In addition, I cannot use a continuous rail because kind of covers the
ejection port, so to clear it,
I will have to use 2 segments, front and rear.
Life is a #####.
Back to the side mount.

Its nice to see everyone on this thread sharing info on this little .22.With all the problems with the front & rear sights and the poor workmanship and the greasy clean up, is this little .22 still worth $190.00 ?? I've bought one at $99 and I wouldn't bought it for $190.00 .

The JW15 and Jw27 from marstar are much better value than the current price of the JW25A.

At $99.00 these are a "kit gun" - one that you can shoot as is or clean up, polish and improve fit and finish. A nice one in original shape is fun to shoot and nice to handle and look at. If Norinco stops making them, then in ten or fifteen years folks will be wondering why some folks bubba'd them now and dropped their value to collectors.

What do you mean " GUN KIT" ? a gun kit is a firearm that needs to be assembled .

The gun comes assembled and ready to be fired, however some folks enjoy taking a gun of mediochre fit and finish and refurbishing it to a higher quality of fit and finish. Others use this as a base for projects. That .22 rimfire scout rifle that every one thinks is neat and fun to shoot. Depending on which Norinco factory and production run fit and finish on a Norinco can be unpredictable and can allways be improved.

A Norinco A Collector ????????? A $99 Collector???

Ithaca Model 49s and some Cooey firearms are now entering into the realm of the collector.
Many Lee Enfields that used to sell for $9.95 and go on sale for $6.95 at Army and Navy in Edmonton during the mid 1960s now worth $300.00 and are desirable collectables. Give a gun thirty or fifty years before whether you decide it is collectable. The Norincos seem to be a limited run and I suspect there aren't any currently being made. Eventually these guns may be just as collectable as the WWII era BRNO .22 rimfires they copy, possibly even more so because they are a copy and supply is limited.
Turner Kirkland of Dixie Gun works was buying as many .45/70 trapdoor springfields for between $1.00 and $5.00 U.S. during the late 1950s and early 1960's. They, and the martinis, and the Rolling blocks were considered obsolete oddities and no more than wall hanger junk. Try to buy one now for under $750.00.
There is no accounting for taste and collectables.

OK, really stupid question. How the hell do you get the cleaning rod out of the stock? Not that I want to use it really, but I've already bent it a bit trying

I want one of those ###y little scopes with the rubber eye cup for my baby mauser and a scope mount for the side of the reciever. I really want to stay as close to what might be historically correct as possible given that this rifle isn't exactly correct either. But a good look-a-like would be perfect.:)

Can anyone point me in the right direction as I haven't been able to find squat.
