HU: Norinco '.22 KKW Trainer' (now with pics)

Nico I have a JW25a scoped, and I have tried virtually every type of ammo I could get my hands on. I found that American Eagle 40g standard, CCI Blazer, and Federal Champion to be the best.

One time my buddy Joerg shot a 5 shot touching group at 50yards with irons. I told him to do it again, and he presented me with a half inch 5 shot group. This was with American Eagle standard.

- American Eagle .22LR is not yet available here Sir. I will try them as soon as they are available.

I have stopped trying to make the JW-25a into my target rifle, and switched to a Savage MkIIf. I took the scope off and use it now for blasting soda cans or squirrels. I find the smooth cycling bolt and quick target acquisition of the rifle to be its best features, and I dominate with it when I'm trying to send a tin can up a sandy hill from 25 yards away.

- It would seem to be very difficult to make a target rifle out of the JW25, But I have to try Sir. A lot of my fellow shooters were a bit disheartened when the wealthier members came in with BRAND NEW Anschutz 1827 Biathalons, and Anschutz 1907 and 1710 Rifles. These rifles are all but unaffordable except to a very few. The cheapest Anschutz I saw were the 1710 D HB with Stainless Steel barrel thats P125,000.00 (US$ 2,840)@. The Biathalons were P280,000.00 (US$ 6,364)@ and the 1907s were P270,000.00 (US$ 6,136)@. One of the 1907's had a US$ 3,000 March F Class scope on it!

- Many of them felt ok "Game Over!" we don't stand a chance against these rifles. Most of what they have are CZ's, Sako Finnfires, Savages, Marlins, and 1 Kimber. My friend said "This game will go to the one with the deepest pockets". And here I come with my Norinco JW25A :D

- Thats why I have to try Sir. I've got to show them that given a decent rifle we have a chance. I know it won't be easy, not by a very very loooong shot!!! But we can't give up. We were allowed to try some of the Brand New Annies, and as my friend put it hitting the target dead on is "Effortless".
- The Norinco is the only Decent rifle I could afford. I chose the JW25A because it looked so nice. The EM332 is not available here. I have 3 young kids in school Sir and I could not justify to myself spending more on my rifle.

For some reason I haven't tried standard velocity CCI's, so I'll probably put the scope back on and see what I can do.

- You should Sir. I found out the other day that to save money, the Philippine Team Small Bore Rifle (Olympic style shooting) shooters use CCI Std Vel to practice. I looked at their 50M targets and many of them were 1 hole shots about .22++" - .3++"!!!! But of course they were using Anschutz Olympic Style Target Rifles (no scopes!).

Good News Bad News.

Good News first:

1. I found a stock maker whose family used to make one of the best CO2 rifles in the country, and some members have had very nice stocks made by him. I will have him Bed and free float the JW25A. Ill keep you posted.

2. Because I had the gaul to compete with my box stock JW25A, the other guys also gave it a good try! In the Bipod Division my friend won 1st (Gold Medal) with his old Sako Hunter which was mostly stock except for having a Bipod, had his barrel cut to 16.5" and with Neoprene (Old wet suit) cut and 4 layers glued to his butt stock as an additional cheek piece.:)

Bad News:

- I came in dead last in the Sporter Division -151pts:(. My friends were all saying good luck were counting on you (to beat the Annies!!!!!!). Man oh man I was so nervous! Even the Annie owners were watching like hawks!!!! I could almost here the sigh of relief when I was done shooting. Man I have never shot so bad!!!!

- In the first BR50 I borrowed my friends Kimber and came in 5th. In the second BR50 I borrowed my friends CZ452 and got silver! Now Im dead last!!!

- I know its not the rifle because it would shoot well in practice. I was just so nervous shooting!

For the next BR50 I have to learn and practice rifle marksmanship even in my sleep if I can!!!!:D

Don't let that get you down. Sometimes you get the Bear and sometimes the Bear gets you.

- Thank you Sir.

- The JW25A is now with the gunsmith, hes doing a trigger job. He said the pull was so long he was surprised I could hit anything at all. He will also try to bed and float it without changing the rifles general look.

- Pictures to follow:)

Interesting, I really want to know how this works out for you. You may have the cheapest rifle, but you have the smoothest action in my opinion.

Hello Sir,

Ive had the trigger worked on and added cutout mouse pads on the rear trigger guard as trigger over travel stops. Now the trigger pull is much much shorter and lighter! No go on the floating and bedding though.

Ive shot another 500rds of CCI 40gr LRN Std vel and the shots are now in or just out of the BR50 targets! I also found a hold that helps me control the rifles recoil so that it recoils straight back instead of up. When I do it right I can usually hit inside the target if not dead center.

I did something naughty the other day. There are a lot of small birds around the range, they are about 3-4 inches big they are called "Maya" here. Anyway I couldn't help myself I shot 5 of them at about 40 - 50 meters. Now I know why people like to hunt, it was very exciting! They are a delicacy here and the range caretaker's kids got them and cooked them.

Anyway the next BR50 is this Sunday 7Aug2011. Let you know how it goes. Also have to get and post pictures.:)

God Bless!

Nico

Am I missing something here, or are there any pictures in this thread? There are 2 rimfires left on my wish list and this is one of them. Love my Norinco Backpacker and think this one would make an excellent addition to the collection. If any dealers out there are listening....and are considering selling these for $99 again, PM me first.

Might even pay full ticket once I have my .223. :)

REDEMPTION! and Pics

Hi Guys!

As promised I am posting some pictures of my Rifle:

The styro and duct tape box on the butt is just to protect the rifle when I travel. My main transport is a scooter.:)

Close up of my scope mounts. Lots of guys are asking about scope mounts try LEAPERS or BKL. Mine is a cheap chinese knock-off of a LEAPERS Accushot RGPMOFS38-25M4 Directional Offset mount. These mounts are for Airguns/.22s

Note Trigger over travel stop. I cut 4 pieces from a neoprene mouse pad glued them together and covered it with black electrical tape. Ugly as sin but it works

My Scopes (All lent to me by friends):
Left: Bushnell 3-9x30mm - My first one. I used this in the last BR50 competition. Very clear and the reticle is nice and fine but the power was not enough my eyes got strained by the 20th BR50 target. The mounts are cheap chinese knock-off of LEAPERS Accushot RGPM-25M2 medium profile.
Right: Cheap (US$ 40) chinese knock-off of a Bushnell Banner 4-16x40mm. It is used for airsoft rifles. Much better magnification but the reticle was so big I could barely see the BR50 target!
On the rifle: Tasco 4-12x32mm. Very clear and the reticle was nice and fine. Magnification was about bare minimum!

DSC08892.jpg

Close up of my rear sight. When I mounted the 40mm scope, I cut off the rear sight leaf ears and covered the Base with a piece of black plastic and super glue. Sorry Guys! But I needed to do it to mount a big scope.

Note: I also glued a peice of Neoprene mouse pad on the steel butt plate to keep the butt from sliping.

REDEMPTION!

I was using CCI Standard Velocity for practice and was planning to use it for the competition, but the friday before the match a friend gave me some RWS Rifle Match ammo to test. WOW! very accurate! I shot 5 sets of 5 shot groups ALL of them were 1 SMALL Hole groups! He gave me 100rds for the BR50 competition that sunday.

It seems that our rifles prefer 1070fps to 1080fps ammo.

Result: 1,262Pts. Gold Medal Sporter Rifle Division, Class B :)

Thanks Guys! I used all the things you taught me! And it worked!

Our little Norinco JW25A's can Shoot!:D

Wow, what a sweet rifle.

I'd like to grab one of these, maybe even as a first rifle. I think I'm in love with .22LR; why shoot centrefire?! My wallet definitely can't afford it, haha.

I'd like to collect other "copies" of famous rifles too, in .22LR. How's the JW-14? Anyone know? It looks like a Mini-14 ....

Nico,
Congratulations on some great shooting! I wouldn't have thought that could be done with a Norinco.

Thanks,
~GM

Hi Sir!

Thank you! It really is a sweet rifle looks cool and shoots well too. I love .22lr rifles! Ive actually stored my last 2 handguns and am concentrating on the .22lr rifle. Much more fun! and so much cheaper! I spend less shooting 200rds of CCI than I did shooting 100rds of .44Mag reloads! And its so relaxing! You actually have to relax to shoot well! It a mini vacation shooting .22lr rifles :D

This acutually IS my very first ever rifle. Its all I could afford  No regrets its a great little rifle!

Norincos are preety good rifles (unless you unluckily end up with a lemmon. God Forbid!) For accuracy you want a Bolt-action rifle. The most accurate is the EM332. Ive checked it out on the net and unlike the JW 15 and 25 which are CZ clones the EM 332 seems to be an Anschutz 1700 series clone. Ive read that it can do .5 inch groups at 100 meters with good ammo. This will be my next rifle IF its ever available here :(

If you cant get the EM332 try the JW15A(wood stock) JW15E(synthetic stock) or the JW27 - I think this is a clone of the russian Baikal rifle? Very accurate too!

God Bless!

Nico

Thank You Sir!

I honestly didn't think so either, but with the RWS Rifle Match WOW!:)

I used to dream of getting an Anschutz when I could afford one but now Im sticking to Norincos. Specially the EM332. Im on a "crusade" to show that guys like me who cant afford the top of the line rifles have a fighting chance with a decent (non-lemmon) Norinco and good ammo.

God Bless!

Nico

I've been preaching all along. Mine shoots ridiculously well! My cheapest gun, and I love it- tease all you like, it's not for sale.:p

Yes Sir! :agree:

Not to be bad about it, but you should have seen the faces of some of the other shooters! They could not believe that the Norinco could do it! :D

Now the gun stores are running out of RWS Ammo, and several have bought Norinco Rifles too!

God Bless!

Thanks so much for your response Mr. Nico :)

I'm likely going to pick this guy up; if only I can find it in stock somewhere! Anyone else have any recommendations aside from Marstar?
