**Huge CGN .264 Bullet Test Result** (lots of pics!)

Hey great job this is really usfull info you are putting up hear its saves alot of time and money for everyone else. keep up the good work. interested in seeing some other calibers posted.

Thanks Again

I now present you with Part Deux

The test was perform exactly like the first one to make the results as comparable as possible. The only difference is I don't have my Winchester anymore so I used my Mauser M38.

I'll keep the latest results seperated for now so it's easier to see. After a couple weeks I'll insert the results in the older test so they are all in weight order. Enjoy!

All the pictures from Part Deux which used to be here have been reposted on the first page

Nice finishing shot....or "coup de gras" there Steve!!...Job well DONE, Very IMPRESSIVE!! The Game Kings you did, performed exactly as mine did...many moons ago. Never used them for hunting after that!...I guess ya don't need a bunch of us datarats filling your head with stooopid stuff for 2011 eh?...LMAO...Happy New Year Bud!!....Kevin

Another thank-you.

Thank you. That was great reading!

I agree with all who like the Barnes bullets. I mostly hunt whitetails, though, so I think I'll be using the Hornady SST's as they are half the price and they expand a bit quicker/bigger. Looks like other than varmint and match bullets they are all pretty good.

Outstanding work! The bullets of special interest to me, and my biggest surprises:

- the 142 gr FMJ - I would have thought they'd have had the greatest penetration; and
- the cast bullets. I would have expected average penetration, not 24+" ! They were heaviest, but not by much, but I suspect that you launched them with a different (slower) load which combined with their heavy weight (and huge SD) turned them into boring machines.

The FMJ did not penetrate that well because once they entered the newspaper, they started going sideways. One even made it out of the stack. Made for some huge "wounds".

For the cast bullets, I used the load you recommended, 20gr of H4198. I also was VERY surprised. The bullets recovered were hanging in the last few pages of the stack while the others blew right trough. I didn't bother trying the 140gr, they are too expensive in newspaper!:D

Great Job...first time reading any of this post! Deffinatly a fan of the Barnes and think I will be swapping my Nosler A-bonds out for them next year moose hunting!

Bergers...doesn't suprise me one bit but still is an eye opener! maybe they would have had perfect expansion and weight rention if you would have fired them at 800 yards:p

I forgot to mention the Bergers earlier. Regardless of all the hype and the Best of The West TV show this testing shows me they are no better or worse than any BTHP Match bullet, unreliable. I'll stick with a real hunting bullet design.

I didn't know you could use H4198 in 6.5x55mm?

I bought some to reload 7.62x39mm, but haven't touched it yet.

H4198 is suitable in the 6.5X55 for cast bullets which need to use reduced loads. I'd estimate that 20.0 grs with the 174gr cast gave about 1500 fps. It's great in the 7.62X39, but unless you're using cast in the 6.5X55, I'd go with something much slower like H4350.

The lesson here is that slow and heavy will out penetrate fast and light - but 45-70 shooters have known that for 125+ years!
