**Huge CGN .264 Bullet Test Result** (lots of pics!)

Thanks to the members who have sent me some new bullets to test. I'll be doing part 2 soon. I'm still looking for some A-Frames if somebody has some to spare it would be great. Let me know.

Steve,

I don't have any .264, but can send you half a dozen 150 gr Swift A-Frame .277 bullets for a 270 test. :)

Sure, anybody want to send me a .270 Win rifle to test them? A .270 WSM would also work.:p Thanks but I'll stick with the .264 for now.

BCsteve looking forward to part deux.

Do you have any 140gr Nosler CC to test? If not send me a PM. Match bullets, but it is all I have in 6.5mm.

There's still a lot that could be tested, Accubonds, Interbonds, core-lokts, win psp/sp, GMK, just to name a few.

I've got some Accubonds and some GMK (and a few others) for the next test but don't have any Interbonds, Corelockt, A-Frame or TBBC.

nicely done! awsome comparison of the bullets. I have been a Barnes fan for a few years now. Great bullets, they are accurate and perform as advertized which in this day and age is a truely unique experience. thanks for all your work. Want to try a .30 cal comparison say .300 win mag:cheers:

BCsteve

Would you like some 120 gr TTSX??? I could send you a few

I've got some, thanks.

So far, Part Deux will include the following:

- 85 Sierra HP
- 120gr Barnes TTSX
- 140gr Swift Scirocco II
- 140gr Sierra GameKing
- 140gr Nosler Accubond
- 140gr Speer HotCor
- 140gr generic FMJ
- 140gr Berger VLD Hunting
- 140gr water quenched and regular cast
- 174gr water quenched and regular cast

Just a suggestion perhaps a new thread would be in order ;)

Thats a terrible idea. We already have to keep BTT'ing this thread so we don't lose track of it, why would we want to divide all of this valuable information/testing. I much rather see the first post to this thread edited (updated) with new info and be made a sticky. This thread is one of the most informative here on CGN.

Hornady SST looks pretty impressive to me. Retention weight was 75% with good penetration. My Neighbour and his brother tested SST and accubond out of 7mm RM at 50 yards with water jugs. The accubond went through 5 jugs mushroomed and retained really well. SST only went through 3 and had its jacket stripped with small retained core. So which test is more realistic, yours or my neighbours?

Depends what's you view of realistic. Neither, wet newspaper or water jugs, will react like meat and bones. Both will compare one bullet to the other and both will show you that the Accubond will penetrate and retain more weight than the SST. My test only compares bullets to each other, one can extrapolate the result on how they will work on game depending of the result they're looking for.

Sticky?....:yingyang:

Definitely!....:)

Don't worry guys, part deux will soon be added. I should have enough news paper to shoot the new bullets you guys sent me pretty soon. Thanks for you patience! :D

I don't have time to read all the commens. My apologies if I repeat what has been said.

Great report. It does not matter too much if wet newspaper does not duplicate flesh and bone. It is a valid comparitive test that can give a lot of useful insight.

What I got out of the test:

As usual, the Nosler Partion blew off the soft nose and the solid base penetrates. This what I have found at close range use of the bullet. I no longer use them, since here in the East, almost all shots I take are under 100 yards.

the Barnes X is impressive.

The Hornady Interlock is also impressive, at a fraction of the cost.

Sierra match bullets tend to break up. I have seen this in gelatine tests.

Amax bullets act more like hunting bullets. I have seen this in gelatine tests.

A comment on test procedures. I have done similar informal tests and learned useful information. I collect used phone books for this purpose. The big thick Toronto book is perfect. I soak books in a pail of water over night. One book = one shot.

It is important that the test be conducted at 100 yards - not a reduced load to simulate 100 yards. A bullet has significant yaw for the first 100 yards as it wig wags down range, before becoming a nice gyro. Under 100 yards, this yaw means the bullet can self-destruct more esaily. If you want to test 100 yard peformance, test at 100 yards.

If you want to test 400 yard performance, down load and test at 100 yards.
