What to Expect....
Have spaces for both Sniper and Non-Restricted CQB
Precision Rifle:
* We will NOT have time to obtain your 100m ZERO
* Ensure you do a BOX Test with your rig BEFORE getting here
* Steel targets to 1000m
* Wind reading, doping, spotting, duties of a spotter, communication
* Optics selection, discussion, comparison
* all other variables when shooting LR or ER (extended ranges)
CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :
* Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
* Advance and fire shooting
* rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Kanada)
* gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
* What works in close and what belongs in the video games
* What works for you and what does not work for you
* Why Desert Eager; Numbah ONE
Equipment / gear list:
Precision / Sniper Rifle Kit to Bring:
* A safe precision/sniper rifle in at least .223 Rem caliber and larger. .308 Win is a common platform
* Hand operated target turrets on your optic already mounted to your rifle. 4.5 x 14 scopes are common. 6.5 x 20 scopes are seen frequently. 8 x 30 scopes are great optics for these matches. Scopes with a parallax adjustable side focus work well. Adjustable objective scopes work too, but more annoying to work with while in the prone position. Just don't show up with the stereotypical 3 x 9 coin operated hunting scopes because you will be wasting your time (and money)
* Suggested scope choices:
- Bushnell Elite 6400, 6500
- Leupold Mark 4 LR/T , Nikon, Vortex Razor, Zeiss
- NightForce, US Optics, Premier Reticles, Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski
* Rear bunny, sand bag, mono pod style rear rests work, too.
* Notebook to record your sight settings
* Anemometer (Kestrel-style) hand held wind gauges
* spotting scope and tripod
* Rucksack, 3 day pack, Assault pack to carry your kit around the range
* Snacks, granola bars, nuts, fruit, extra fluids
* 200 rounds of safe, tested, reliable ammunition for your rifle (hopefully chronographed already)
* Sunscreen, bug dope, ballistic glasses, hearing defenders
* Extra food and water (someone always forgets)
* Screwdriver set - compact enough?
* OH Shzt Kit (if you don't know, I will teach you)
* Rain gear or appropriate foul weather gear
* Shooting mat
* Ballistic software, handheld device (Smartphone?)
* Laptop or Tablet with USB interface... I'll tell ya why later on
CQB (non-restricted rifle) Gear to Bring:
* Reliable, dependable NON-RESTRICTED rifle semi-auto loader: SKS, VZ58, CZ58, M14, M1A, M1 Carbine, etc
* Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x magnification scope)
* Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
* Ensure you have reliable iron sights (USGI for you M14 lovers, I hope) or reliable/tested/proven optics
* Your vest or webbing must hold the 4 x 5/20 rd magazines you will need
* Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
Cost:
* Cost: $400 for 4 days or $ 100 per day (if you select 2 of Sniper or 2 days of non-restricted CQB)
* Payment due on 01 May (EMT or MO works for me)
On Site Camping:
* Trailer locations available on Private Range (lots of room) , likely not serviced with H2O and Electricity
* Fire pits available (already dug)
* Trailer locations are within easy walking distance to the physical shooting range
* Longview, AB has a few restaurants
* My host (buckaroo) is currently working on dinner / feeding arrangements (more TBA)
* I'm booked to stay at the Blue Sky Motel in Longview 403 558 3655
* Great Jerky factory just down the street... makes great presents!
