Hungry Longview Precision Rifle & CQB Clinic 06-10 July 2013 - Shooting Camp!!

19 April 2013 update:

* Got a phone call from a sniper school that their principal and staff want to join us for the 4 days, they are IN! I'm not telling any of you nothing! ha ha ha ha ha beeeeyotches! Y'all just have to show up and find out who they are. That call was last night. I did not sleep much because I'm only a Religion Teacher, and I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy.... :runaway:

* Got another message that Funker Tactical wants in. Another celebrity or Host will be shooting with us and many of you will be 'stars'.

* I am starting to msg people to firm up their commitment, $ 100 per day. Some of you are only with me for TWO days, either sniper or CQB. If you are signed up for the FOUR days, it's a total of $400, yeah, it's refundable if you gotta bail....

* My EMT information is on the <contact hungry> tab of my web site/page.

So, who is still in for this shooting camp? :D

Let's get seriously learning and seriously having fun...

Cheers,
Barney

Still in, 100%. Hopefully I can find the mags I need for my NR choice for the CQB, otherwise I'll have to run contestant #2. I guess I'd better get off my ass and get some loads happening for my LR rig too.

I'm in Barney. It'll be a seriously humbling experience, I'm sure but it won't be the first (or last) time I've been served a b*tch slap of reality!:sok2

Rooster...

Ensure that the rifle and load you are going to bring will be good to 1K ! Have your ballistic calculator figure out all you bullet come-ups or drops or corrections. We will take it from there. :D

That goes for the rest of you LR shooters!

Cheers,
Barney

You're good guys, I don't care what anybody says!;) I'm working on it - damn snow and work are getting in the way. Was forced to carry on with load development in 20k 1/4 value winds the other day. I'll get there. Excited and I'll try to have the "hard drive" purged!

Here's a pic from the ORA's Sniper Clinic / Match on Sunday 05 May this past weeked:

Ensure you start gathering your gear and pack it into yer sniper ruck or 3 day pack or assault pack.

Test out your spotting scope and it's tripod / interface/ adjustments /knobs / stands / rubber feet

Pack along a trusty notebook or logbook or shooter book or sniper specific notebook or Rite in Da Rain notebook

Some of you like mats or yoga mat or stalker case or fold out mat or shooting mat

Bean bags for the rear are important, pack them well and bring along a variety to try out and trade among yourselves.

Payments and confirmations are still rolling in! Not too late to confirm you spot since cancellations are inbound as well. :D It's all good.

And yes Funker Tactical film crew were with me at my CFB Petawawa CQB clinic on 27-28 April (couple of weekends ago) and they are excited. Hopefully Ryan of Funker Tactical fame will have some demo hardware.

Cheers,
Barney

I was just asked if/why we need a shooting ruck/sniper bag and if we will be packing up, deploying and then re-establishing a shooting point once again. Here is my answer for the rest of ya coming to my clinic. :)

That's a great question. Couple of answers and I'll let you pick which one works for you.

I'm a competition shooter at both Prov and National levels. I carry all my gear in ONE ruck/back/bundle, so that I can haul my rifle/matt/dragbag in one hand and the spotting scope/tripod in the other when we move downrange or uprange depending where the competition will be shot from. I don't have a team van or a support vehicle like my military teams do, we civvies are on our own.

As you can see, my background in competition lends itself for other shooting competitions like those Practical Field Matches or Shoot 'n Scoot matches that are popular in the USA. Everything I need has to be able to deploy in ONE package. So if you think you will find yourself sometime in the future at a Sniper Rifle competition, this preparation and mindset is for you.

After my clinic, many of you will be ready / prepared to attend more serious courses like those taught by REAL Experts and not Religion Teachers like me. I will be most happy to re-direct you to great schools like Keith C of w w w.milcun.com

or

Rob Furlong of w w w.robfurlong.ca (or is it com?)

We will be stationary at a firing point so repeated deployment (s) to more firing points is not an issue for my shooting camp. But... consistent with what we preach to the LFCA Teams(s) that we in the ORA coach, Train like you compete, compete like you train.

Now for a lighter answer. Often I have soldiers/Teams/Units/ sniper dets shooting our matches. They witness a gaggle-fornication of civvie shooters with their wagon train of kit and often giggle when the civvies are not within earshot. I'm fat and ugly enough (invokes laughter) without more mounds of kit/gear for the soldiers to chirp me. :D Keep things light... literally and metaphorically. :nest:

My gift/talent/skill comes from being able to ease newbies into the competition games/circles/arena. Without newbies our sport ain't gonna grow. Many newbies are intimidated by the serious shooting courses which are super dynamic and full of learning opportunites. Enter the professional edumak8tor in me, and now we have lots of newbies feeling comfortable and happy to join our community. This grows the sport(s). :D

Ever wonder why some disciplines are dying / declining / aging out ?

I ain't no rocket scientist, but we in the ORA have a ton of success building community and introducing newbs to our games. Our numbers cannot be disputed. We had 55 shooters at our CQB match 1 and 60 shooters at our CQB Match 2 last Saturday 04 May. We are doing something right, even if I still am phat and ugly!
:D

There does that answer things?

Cheers,
BArney

Precision Shooters... Got more homework for you before you show up at the Longview Camp (address / location to be posted here by buckaroo soon)

Notes on Spotting Scopes:

If you have not bought one yet, there are MANY sources / articles/ descriptions of spotting scopes all over the innernet so read them carefully. I cannot ever know all there is but what I will teach you is what works for me and our competitions. :D

Buy the best spotting scope you can. My Kowa TSN82SV 45* eyepiece goes from 25 to 75X (no joking) and ran me $ 1400 . If you go cheap in this department, you will regret the 2 day exercise and will not maximize your learning opportunities. I hope I am not sounding like an annoying high school teacher, I just wanna ensure you have the very best experience before we get more serious about this game.

Optics are key here. Above the $500 price point you can get very good glass. Under that, who knows because you can see the targets and local large details, but you don't have the resolving power that fabulous $1000 and up glass will have . :D

The best glass will have the most amazing resolving ability to see the mirage at almost all ranges out to our targets. Fabulous glass will allow you to examine the wind conditions and make informed decisions about the 'dope' you will be putting on. It can be overly frustrating when you cannot see let alone interpret the conditions before your boolit is sent downrange. Field shooting is very different from KD (known distance) range shooting.

On Day 1 of the Longview Shooting Camp, I will align all the spotting scopes on the firing line and all of you will have an opportunity to campare scopes and then take notes (real or mental) on the various observations you will make.

Reactions will range from: "cool" to "wow" to "holy krap" to "mother Trucker" to "I gotta get one of these"

You will be taught by myself how to use this glass and become the master with it. Shztty glass will only hold back yer learning. You will spend 2 days peering in and around this spotting scope.

Now depending upon who you partner up with , maybe they (unknown spotter/partner ) have excellent glass. If you happen to be arriving with someone you are comfortable shooting and spotting with, then power to ya. Once we organize or squad you up, then the 2 of ya can make a decision whose glass to use. You will have many opportunities to swap spotting scopes throughout the shooting relays.

Riflescope Anecdotal Notes:

Ensure you do these tests BEFORE you meet me on Sunday 07 July and then we git shooting. These tests MUST be done before you show up since I don't have the time to put you through them. So you got some preliminary homework to do besides reloading a shztload of reliable & dependable ammo.

Confidence Test:

* Zero your rifle at 100m / yds
* Be super confident that you can repeat this kind of a shot (over and over again)
* Dismount your scope rings (you are using tactical rings aren't you?)
* Put your dismounted scope aside and grab a coffee or tea. Relax and take a few deep breaths
* Remount your scope / ring combination , torque down the bolts
* Shoot and cement in your mind that you are using quality gear (you did buy quality didn't you?)
* Are you confident now? Why or Why the Fzck not? Write this down in your sniper log book/ notebook

Box Test:

* Using a black patch or black marker as an aiming point in the bottom LEFT quadrant of a sheet of white paper (letter or legal)
* Aim at this black patch / dot (for the entire duration of this exercise)

* DIAL UP 5 MOA or 5 inches at 100m or 10 cm for you millradian dudes
* Shoot 2 or 3 rounds to establish a group

* DIAL RIGHT 5 MOA or 5 inches at 100m or 10 cm
* Shoot 2 or 3 rounds to establish another group

* DIAL DOWN 5 MOA or 5 inches at 100m or 10 cm
* Shoot 2 or 3 rounds to establish a third group

* DIAL LEFT 5 MOA or 5 inches at 100m or 10 cm
* Shoot 2 or 3 rounds to establish a group and this group SHOULD be on the patch

IF it ain't on the patch, you hafta start troubleshooting why it ain't that way. Quality glass will always drop them last boolits into the patch. Cross bolts ? Screws? Loctite? Base screws? Action screws/bolts?

IF they land in the patch, they you have achieved success. Now you are closer and more ready to attend / shoot my clinic.

Bring on the questions since we have some time still.

Cheers,
Barney

When is the next one.....................? :(

Same time next year. I'm tailoring this clinic for the newbie who wants to get into the Precision Rifle game but is reluctant to visit the professional sniper schools like w w w.robfurlong.com or w w w.milcun.com

After I finish with you, your comfort level will rise to the point you can think about shooting more LR with the APRA or BCRA sniper matches in Chilliwackistan or other provincial rifle associations who host sniper matches. Who knows where your game will be elevated to next? That's me, helping you with the LR addiction.

Cheers,
Barney

And soon in Longview, we will have this kind of clinic but using non-restricted rifles, same drills, same stale jokes!

Then once you are through with my clinic, you will be ready for Earl Green of Phase Line Green Tactical. He is the real deal. I'm just the match director turning into Tactical Teacher ....

Cheers,
Barney

Please do. Do you have enough room to park the 'burb overnight or is it easy to get a room in the closest town? Thanks

I just had a conversation with buckaroo and he is ready for all you campers/RV'ers. Ensure you are gtg with buckaroo. We are doing Range Recce work right now and target prep.

More happy surprises when you guys get to day 1!! I'm not saying anything! We are gonna have fun. Bring lots of spare water, and also yer bathing suits because the river is right next to buckaroo's camp (ground, site, location). And I did say bathing suits, not BIRTHDAY suits!

yuk yuk yuk

Cheers,
Barney
