Hunt Camp Rules

Yes & your member would have known enough to ask 1st & only if he knew there was enough room & the gang in general was interested in aquiring a new member. :)

Ask who? There are no rules, written or otherwise.;) So he/she is entitled to invite whomever they please, and you can make room.

Just sayin', its obvious your group has an understanding, its just not posted on the camp wall.

I am not ignorant and inconsiderate enough to invite anyone anywhere that I have been invited to, without asking someone.

Not dragging a bunch of guys along with you is no more a rule at my camp than is the rule don't light the trucks on fire

If things such as this need to be rules and governed, then I'm pretty glad i'm not stuck hunting with those type people

Rules for who?

Wow..thats alot of rules..

How about everyone just conducts themselves in a mature fashion.

Sounds like you guys hunt with a bunch of immature aholes that need a father figure to guide them through the week.

I have no problem with a guy having a shot of Bailey's in his AM coffee before a hunt or a beer or two at lunch before the afternoon hunt.

I have never been in a camp where the guns are locked up...I usually carry mine loaded for my 2am pee...

I agree, we use common sense instead of rules. I also notice the rule with alcool are quite often cited, sounds like alcool renders you nuts, we again don't have this problem.

We may have an implied rule I can think of; Shoot to kill. We don't waste ammunition for fun...

Things are more complicated when you have a physical camp and property, with members who may have paid thousands of dollars to build or buy the camp.

Members die/retire and their share gets passed to their kids, and you really don't know who you will have in your camp down the road. Most guys won't walk away from a $8-10,000 investment, so you need to have some kind of "order", or it could turn into "no fun"...

I really don't expect guys that hunt a million acres of crown land to understand this, as you're not financially tied to anyone and can hunt where you please...

Ahhh, now I see.

And for that matter (further to blargon's point), a hunt camp member might want to invite one or more of their children, who might or might not be a good fit with the camp/gang. One of the worst dickweeds I ever had to spend time with in a hunt camp was the son of one of the old guys. The father was a real prince of a man, a decorated Wartime naval Chief Petty Officer, a wise and honorable man, who somehow had a real dolt for a son. It hurt the father, but we black-balled the son, ie he could NEVER come back.

I lost a good buddy over booting him out on the second day of the hunt, after him showing up loaded back at the cabin hammered by 10:30am. Sent him walking, he was told weeks before hand not to do this on our land!! Then we find 2lt stashes at his posts, (hmmmm that's how he got tanked).

When I have been invited to a hunt, I treat the place like it was my own, with respect. And pick up the lions share of things.

My bud, and I have had our own hunting place for three years now, and worth every penny, no problems, no rules, (correction! must step out side to hunt, no shooting out the windows in your underwear)

We have shared this spot the odd time with a invite to the a newbie or old friend. Because they know the unwritten rules or commonsense guide lines

I'm off to the annual whitetail camp tomorrow morning. There are rules but they are easy to follow. gun/axe/chainsaw/booze safety is important, if your a dumbass, you will be made fun of and if your an #######, you don't get too many warnings.

It's the same 6-7 guys and whatever sons and adopted for hunting season sons that can come. We all share the work and the cooking and each hunter is on their own for bringing a deer home. We will help eachother search or drag or whatever, but we are not into splitting a deer 12 ways.
We eat more meat than that on the trip. Usually half/most people get one and it's bucks only.

Spikes will get you made fun of a bit if you have been hunting a while unless it's the last day.. then it's "you lucky bugger... "

Moose Hunt Camp Rules.

#1 Have fun.

#2 We are all adults therefore we act like adults.

#3 We hunt legally/ethically

#4 Do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

These is no reason to have these rules written down as it is the way any body should act.

As a number of us have said, most camps do not need WRITTEN rules or guidelines, since "EVERYBODY" knows what they are. But some larger camps, and those with changing memberships, have found that it is handy to have some rules. And when there is serious cash on the table as to what constitutes membership, and what privileges are thereby conveyed, only a fool would have no written rules.

But for heaven's sake, this whole thread is about what works for YOU in YOUR hunting situation. Live like you wanta live!!!!!

I own a camp in partnership with my brother and a good buddy. One rule that we have that I have not seen here is "bring anyone - send no one"
Nobody uses our camp without one of the owners present.

Ask the camp gang in general. BUT we already know that the camp is pretty much at max, so no-one would ask except a member with a son/daughter ready to start hunting, then of course room would be made. Taken into account our age in general means not many new kids around & it'll be a while before we will have grandkids that age.

Still it's not a rule any more than "no shooting holes in the roof" would need to be posted!

We do have 2 rules.
NO CELL PHONES IN CAMP If a phone rings in camp it's a $20 fine that goes into the biggest dear pot. &
If you don't apply for a doe tag you do dishes for the week(s) you are there.

As Doug said "But for heaven's sake, this whole thread is about what works for YOU in YOUR hunting situation." I can see possible problems for new camps starting or camps that don't have permanent members.

I'm with you riden (and senior)

Two of our guys were working their CRACKberries from their TREE STANDS last year (2007)!!!!! There is something SO wrong about doing e-mail whilst deer hunting..............and yes, getting phone calls and everything else.

I belong to one of these type of clubs, which is actually incorporated with a set of bylaws as to the operation. However, when it comes to the annual moose hunt there really aren't that many stipulations.

Club members get first dibs at any openings. Any vacancies can be filled by a guest of a member, and that member is responsible for their guest.

Money up front - a couple hundred deposit to make sure you are committed.

One volunteer buys all groceries, liquor, beer, pop, fuel, etc., and the expense divided by the number of participants. That person is exempt from any specific camp duty unless they chose to help out.

A duty roster is made that lists the chores for the day, and who is doing them. ie AM dishes, PM dishes, filling the wood box, etc. Luckily, our group includes two chefs, who volunteer to do all the cooking.

All meat is equally divided at the end of the hunt, regardless of who did the shooting or how many days you hunted.
