Thank you for all the responces.
Yes, I know what that law dictates, and I know what I will do, too.
Lots of cases, when everyone in the woods could meet similar situation, another example could be danger from growing population of cougars in Ontario:

(Please forgive me if I'm wrong, did not read anything about those large cats and their habits, may be they are sleeping after sunset, however cat are night hunters...
)
It should be something about reasonable measures for wilderness self-protection - if you cannot give me an ATC my handgun, let me defend myself with my rifle ( shotgun), which is already with me!
Another situation, already mentioned by daveg01: late hunt and success - deer harvested, you field dressed it and now walking through the forest with bloody meat, where that 600lb-bear ( or cougar) looking for a food in such bad year like this...
I do not like to break any law, but survival instinct badly pushing to do this, even I'm not a chicken, believe me.
And I am not a poacher too!!!
Why cleaver lawmakers do not think, forgot about regular us?
NB: Almost similar situation with your own property protection against intruders - no one can use own firearms to protect your home, your family!!!
