Does anyone still hunt with a 303?

When I was a kid, it seemed like folks either had a sporterized Lee Enfield or a Winchester 94 30-30. Anything else in my neck of the woods was a rarity.

303 is still a great gun to hunt with:) and if your a first time hunter wanting to get started you can pick them up cheap

Lot's of people still use the 303 british.I've got one in the safe that doesn't get out too often. Not because it won't do the job,it will but because I like my other rifle's more.I've also got a 94 in the same predicement as my 303 lol.

I took an eight point whitetail two weeks ago with my full military spec No 4Mk 2. One shot 80 yards dead deer. A good sound, tough rifle for late season (SNOW) deer hunts in my part of the province.

cheers Darryl

.303 is the only rifle I will use on big game, as issued Mk4 no2 with pig sticker. Dependable, hard hitting and low recoil- what's not to like?

Yes - Certainly! I took two 303's in the field - as sported LE, and a sported Ross 1910, c/w red-dot. One was used for dogging, the other for watches. I like the LE for its ruggedness, and detatchable mag. I like the Ross for its ability to spit a lot of lead in a short period of time. This was put to the test this year - my peers in the camp thought I was shooting a semi. All of a sudden, they started to show a lot of interest in the venerable old 303...

Ross

I never had a LE myself, it was a crudely sporterized Ross 1910 that a generous old guy gave me when I was 14.

My Dad used a .22 Hornet Winchester Model 43.

One time an RCMP officer came up the logging road where we hunted looking for a lost guy and saw that we had unusual rifles and asked what they were and made a comment about it.

I think the .303 is the only rifle out there where the clip is worth more than the rifle. lol

My .303 is now part of my CNRFSC kit.

Couldn't think of a better trainer rifle.

i use my bubba'd 303 solely or everything from deer to bigger it will hit the vitals out to 300yds mind you i cant always see that far down range lol cant ask for anything better from an all game cartridge kinda exspensive to feed and theres not much out there for high end rounds but i fair out pretty good with win super x 180 grainers i recently aquired a 308 but thats probely gonna be more a sentimental ocaisional shoot at the range type rather then an bush gun, the good thing i found about 303's is they can be beat up a bit and there cheap enough to not worry

Hunting with a .303

I always take a .303 hunting. Sometimes it is the back up gun and others it's the rifle of choice. There is not many ammo retailers in this country that do not have a box of .303 shells on the shelf.

Up here in the Yukon just about every gun owner has an old 303 in the safe...it is very common to see them out hunting with either an Enfield or even perhaps an old mauser in 7mm or 8mm

I"ve used an Enfield for hunting , ues.
And if I only had one big game rifle to hunt with, that would be the one.

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with it ballisticly, no matter WHAT some idjits say about the Brit being too low pressure, to high trajectory, and rimmed!

I made the longest shot ever using my 303 no 4mk2 on the last week of whitetail. It was 400yds plus. (I do have to admit with a 4x power on top.)

As I mentioned in a previous post. It made the 2 old guys I was with

It felt good, because it demonstrated that me, and my bubba, can shoot'em just like they can.

This doesn't work for everyone but it suits me just fine.
