Hunter shot and killed near Otter Lake Quebec

All, I am sorry to report that this news was provided to me yesterday night.

On this past weekend we remember hearing sirens not to far from where we were hunting ( Otter Lake Quebec ) . We didn't think much of it, could have been a house fire or car accident for all we knew.
When my B.I.L went to register his deer at the place in Shawville last night, they told him that a hunter had been shot and killed,.....by his hunting buddy. ( that was what the sirens were for ).

1st thought that came to my mind was " know your target".

I feel bad for the dead hunters family, I would not wish this on anyone.

Be safe, be careful.

That is all the info I have, I have not heard anything on the radio, or in the papers either.

Sad indeed... scares the crap outta me when I hear about this stuff happening.. I know MY hunting partners where abouts at all times and I follow the safety rules.
No frickin' excuse for what happened there!

I dont understand how could anyone just shoot cause something moved, I dont think his buddy looked like a deer. Knowing your target is a must in this sport. Maybe there is something that we dont know about that went on between these two guys. A deer doesnt wear an orange vest with boots.
 
I wouldn't be too quick to try and roast the buddy. Chances are if there was bad planning and communication, they were both guilty of it. Could have just as easily been the other way around.

Just my humble armchair quarterback opinion.
 
I find it pretty hard to believe the guy would shoot at anything that moved with his partner in the area...

i think theres something we dont understand happening

I feel for the family of the hunter who was shot and the shooter however the shooter should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. Yes accidents do happen but this whole blaze orange is such a joke you must identify your target you must make sure that where you are shooting has a safe back drop. Hell we should be able to hunt in full Camo. Unless he shot through a deer and hit his fellow hunter or it ricocheted or something crazy like that they should throw the book at him!!!!!!!!

You're totally right mommabear. But I just simply don't understand how this can possibly happen. I don't always know where my hunting partner is, I have a general idea based on our strategy, but that can change. If deer hunting, I have to identify it as either a whitetail or mulie, then I have to figure out if it is antlered or antlerless. Is it a legal antlered or antlerless ? (if meat hunting). Oh...and let's not forget - what lies beyond my target? So, at what point does one fail to identify it as HUMAN?
 
If there is a reason it would probably be hunter density. But here in last year a guy got shot moving a decoy I think it was the year before when a guy was shot by his partner while traking a wounded moose.

And as Alberta gets more population it may be time to bring in some sort of safty color requirement.

I would suggest hunters pink for our western counterparts, as orange is taken here in the east. I am sure they would not want to look like us, and I am sure in PINK I will not want to look like them...

I do, quite often. ever watch the news? not the best place for thise of pale skin right now. a brit was abducted and executed not far from my compound gates a few years ago, bombs were parked in company vehicles 200yrds from my office last year. 6 terrorist rammed the main gate earlier this year, luckly cut down by the .50cal and a watchful gaurd. real fun round there. so how bout you go back to posting about what you do know, which so far seems to be little to nothing.
