I like the camaraderie around the campfire at night with the guys, but come first light hunting time, we all go our separate ways, with two-way radios. Some of the spots we frequent require a 4x4, so having two vehicles with equipment makes sense if you need to get out or have a break down, other than that, I enjoy my hunt alone accompanied by my topo map, compass, gps with extra batteries and two- radios etc..etc

I hunt alone most of the time. I do prefer to hunt with someone though. Its nice to have the company. I only have a few people to hunt with right now and it is hard to get schedules to match up so most times its just me. I usually don't worry too much about getting hurt.

I never worry about getting hurt.

I have hunted solo many times, including solo camping trips 5 days or longer in remote country; all grizzly country.

My wife stresses I guess but not me... I think she's worried I will come back... :)

On the other hand it is fun to ride around BS'ing with someone.

Hunting alone all the way...I have too few good spots that I just can't give up. I'd rather (and will be again this fall) go myself on my 26 km trek to find another bighorn to match my fist solo ram......

alone

What's the worst that can happen?/?? Hey you only die once, might as well bedoing something passionate.
I've hunted plenty by myself. dsya on end in b.c. on horse back. It was great. One of the best things about it was the company.:D :D
:D

A ship in the harbor is every safe, but that is not what they build ships for.:D

I hunt alone a lot. No hesitation. I leave the map on the fridge so if I don't show up in a week or so, the kids can call me in AWOL.
I get the ol "what if you die out there" speech once in a while. So what. Better than dyin' in a hospital with a hose up yer arse.

I have the same rule at home. But it hits hard in our family because my Uncle actually died ,when I was a teenager, hunting alone. No one new where he was and we didn't even start looking for him for 4 days and in the end it was some campers that found his site etc.... Hunt alone, it rocks, but leave a plan, map, gps coordinates and do not deviate from your plan or they'll be looking for ya in the wrong area.

When I'm stalking bear with my recurve I prefer to have a buddy along, but other wise I just pack bear spray for a backup plan.
Also if I'm out for a week to ten days it's nice to hunt alone but get together at camp for a beer and a bull####. So some of each I guess. Hunting alone is good and sharing a hunt with good friends is good too. :D

Some of my best times have been while I was alone........................
does that also include ### sorry could not resist
but nothing like a full day in the forest all by yourself

it is harder to find a hunting partner than a wife. and when they all die or really piss you off you dont have much choice. hunting alone in the yukon since 1995 ,,,,and loving it.

I usually just leave a note on the refrigerator with a map saying I should be here if not back by 10 pm call my buddy he will find me. Funny last time the wife never sent anyone looking for me:):)

you're going strait to hell for kicking up this retarded thread

:)

Trying to revive this to make it into a "Methusaleh" thread? :p

May as well spice it up.

When I hunt alone, I like to take along my Norinco SKS I bought from Martsar (so I could get their "Ironclad" guarantee - but call, don't use e-mail). I have a "Leupy" scope mounted and shoot corrosive ammo out of it. The headspace is out a bit, but I don't care - still good for Bear Defense.

I enjoy hunting with someone, especcially when I am not familiar with the terrain and where property lines are. Hunting alone would be much cooler when I had soemwhere to go I didn't need permission for.

BTW Andy - I love your childhood pic. :D

I hunt alone the majority of the time.

While I do enjoy hunting "trips" with family, i.e - my annual moose hunt, I go off by myself much of the time and the peace and tranquility that a lone hunter enjoys from time to time just cannot be had if you're not alone.

I just don't buy into the "risk" thing whatsoever.

I think people who worry about the alleged risk are the ones who have never actually spent a day out in the wild by themselves and found how quickly a person becomes attuned to thier surroundings and how having others along is really unneccesary.
