Just double checking on this one. Is it legal to hunt on hydro lines/rail lines in Southern Ontario without asking permission of the "land owners" utility company and rail line. I know in Manitoba it's legal or at least no one stops you. ;)

Hydro easements are private property, unless it is on crown land. Need landowner permission, not hydro.

Most old rail lines are owned by municipalities, Bell, or abutting landowners, and permission is required. They are not considered crown land.

Active railway ROW's are posted. So is Hydro land. Mind you, I've never heard of anybody being charged with trespass, but you can be.

in ontario if it's on private property you are tresspassing, unless you have land owner's permission. we've had a few in the past on one of the farms i hunt on we found people sitting in our trestands. i had one last fall on my property and some this spring looking for garlic.
it's a right of way for hydro. they even leave notice a few weeks to months before they come on the property.

okay thanks for the info don't like walking on private ie: personal owned land I thought the hydro lines/railways where owned by the utility/railway. Biggest issue with hunting finding land.

IF some rednecks starting walking down my (I own the easement) hydro corridor, Id be VERY pissed....

And that's the reason I asked. I wasn't sure on who owned it out west its a hole lot easier that and I had about few farmers that knew me and where fine with me going since I went shooting with them after work. I had found an area with like 4 or 5 towers cutting across some nice bush with a creek great for small game. Also I have seen atv riders in the area riding on trails so I was wondering if come winter I could just go.

I HATE talking to people and if i can avoid it I will. I'm okay working or if we are doing something like walking my dog but just randomly walking up to someone is like getting a root canal for me.

Which is why I asked, my hunter ed guy in MB said just to use hydro lines and railways till i made some in roads into the community where I was looking to hunt wouldn't get anything other then rabbits but it got you out there at least.

Railway lands
(7) Despite the Trespass to Property Act, the occupier of railway land,
(a) shall not prohibit hunting or fishing on the railway land and shall not prohibit entry to the railway land for those purposes; and
(b) shall not charge any fee for hunting or fishing on the railway land or for entry to the railway land for those purposes.

Are you kidding me? Getting pissed because someone else uses your property without asking permission makes you a ####?

Question, if some random person jumped into your truck and took it for a spin without asking, would you be pissed?

as stated above "in ontario" (i have no idea about the other provinces or there regs) hydro corridor's are an "easement". on "private" land the owner owns that easement and pays property taxes on the easement. even hydro leaves notice when they will be on the easment.
i've never looked into railway as i don't own land with a railway through it, so have no idea but i do own land in ontario with hydro going through.

Around here the old railway beds have been sold off, so they are not "railway" lands anymore. Some of them even have houses built on them. You would need to visit the land registrar's office to see who holds the title to these lands.

we do have some old railway beds around where i live but not on my property and they all have underground bell lines. i don't know if bell owns these "beds" trails or the private land owner does. i can only assume bell does because they have bell signs at all the entrances to these trails from a road or road crossing. and some say no tresspassing right on the bell sign and some are just a plane old red bell signs and don't say anything about tresspassing, just that there are underground bell lines.

Well Fergie

On My land in Manitoba Hydro bought the land under their tower lines so that there is no question about access. They let me do what ever I want with the land but they own it and pay the taxes on it and I believe it is still considered to be private property not crown land
