Hunting boots for long walks

Irish setters.. Two pairs.

If you know youre gonna get youre feet wet, just wear a good fitting pair of old boots with chinese goretex (plastic bag ) for youre feet.

Always bring an extra pair of wool sox and you should be good for the day.

Hi,
went small game hunting yesterday, and my feet hurt like hell from walking from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM...
I was wearing a pair of hi-top gore-tex Salomon shoes, but I find them not very supportive. The other issue is that I have flat feet/pronation problems, and my feet arches are super sore after a day of hunting...

What hunting shoes would you recommend that offer decent support for pronating feet and that will also keep my feet dry in a wet environment?

Thanks!

I didn't read thru all 5 pages so I don't know if someone mentioned it already or not....but here is my advice...custom fit orthotics. Very pricey if you don't have an insurance plan thru your employer but well worth it. My feet aren't too bad but flat enough (and a variance from one foot to the other, I think that was the biggest issue), doing more than 5km in a day and my feet would be sore even with quality hikers. Not anymore...keep in mind there is a break-in period and your changing the mechanics of your feet/ankles/knees.

Iam surprised how few fella's use "good" orthotics. Emphisis on the "Good", custom made just for you by someone who actually knows what there doing. You will need a doctors script to run them through an insurance plan. There are lots of fly by night orthotic makers out there so do your home work and find a good one. They should watch you walk from different angles, and physically examine your feet, and then take either plaster or foam molds of each foot. As we age the the structure of the foot weakens, and thus the majority of folks have fallen arches or a pronation when they walk. Everyone and every foot is different, that's why you have to be properly assessed from the neck down to the back, hips, knee's and then feet.

Good orthotics coupled with a good pair of supportive boots such as Danners will eliminate the majority of your walking discomfort and make your hunting day far more enjoyable. With happy feet and proper body alignment you will out walk the dog!!!

Rockys duty boot 8" with side zip. They are water proof also. About $100.00 to $140.00. I can walk all day with those puppies on and I'm no kid.

I have to third the Zamberlan reccomendation. I've two pairs with superfeet insoles, and have never had an issue, they're awesome. It will depend on fit and your foot though, as always.

Danners. Go online. They offer size and widths to meet every need.
A poor choice in boots rates right up there with making a bad choice on rifles, scopes, bullets, binos, clothing, knives and friends!!!

if you need anything but narrow.... forget Danner.

I wear a 9EEE dress shoe.
in hunting boots, I need a 9.5EEE or EEEE

Danner won't come close.... I can barely even get my feet to touch the bottom

I used to be a huge Meindl fan but my last two pairs were junk and warranty was non-existent. I then had two pair of Zamerberlands that I loved but they changed the design slightly on the third pair and they totally shredded my feet. I guess it was not uncommon with the new design. I'm now on my third pair of Lowa Tibets and couldn't be happier.

+1

Never skimp on your feet. I have a 13 year old pair of danners, still going strong. Keen footwear is also pretty awesome, but won't last as long as a cared for pair of danners.

I've had great results with my Irish Setter Elk Trackers (600g) so far (recommended by a friend). This was only my second year with them, but they have held up to a LOT of walking and abuse. They were used for work as a wildlife biologist for several months walking up to 15km/day, hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and general hiking trips. I couldn't be happier with these boots so far as the last pair of cheapies I bought (Irish Setters, but the Bass Pro special) barely survived 4 months of similar use. I've yet to try other high end boots (Danner, Meindl, etc...) as these are my first pair of more expensive boots. Once again, couldn't be happier with my Elk Trackers.
