Hunting capable Semi auto. I'd like solid advice.

It's a real shame that the AR15 is restricted. I've got 2 with 14.5 " barrels and they are light and handy and accurate. I'd love to hunt yotes with one. I'd love to hunt deer with one if it was chambered in .308 or something.

With the CPC running behind the NDP in the latest polls and running scared as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs I don't see much prospect of the government using c42 to de-restrict the AR15 any time soon.

I have a pretty decent Winchester 100 in 308 Win for sale.
Nothing wrong with the gun but I'm cutting back the arsenal and getting rid of the dust collectors.
Might be shedding a flutted barrel black synthetic BAR in 300 Win Mag as well.
Both the Winchester model 100 and the BAR are good guns with the BAR leading the pack in accuracy.

Anybody buying your guns is getting ripped off.

They will be getting confiscated after the election, right?

I'd hold off until after the federal election before investing big dollars in a BAR or suchlike.
If a worst case scenario happens and "the beard" becomes PM he might make a grab for the handguns and semis.
If a NDP government delegates the authority to ban guns to a province gun owners in Alberta, Quebec and Ontario with socialist governments might be feeling the ban bite.
Like it or not it's a possibility and there's no sense sticking your head in the sand and pretending otherwise.
Soon as a semi ban happens it's either turn them in for no compensation, export them or deactivate them.
Sure they aren't registered and you can hide them but what's the point if you can't take them out and hunt with them?

just how soon "could" this actual ban take place? I have a number of s/a that I would like to sell off before this possible ban may happen. I'm not even using them, so why sit on them. I have a gun show coming up in Dec, but could that be too late by then?

Pretty soon after the change in governmet and then they give you a period of time to lawfully dispose of them.
It doesn't take long for the government to make an OIC.
Right now the SAs are worth cash.
After the ban they're scrap iron.
Who's going to buy them even if grandfathering is offered?
A grandfathered prohib is a safe queen.
You can't take them hunting or to a range and when you die the government grabs them.
I got rid of a bunch of handguns and 12X prohibs a couple of years ago.
Even handguns are useless unless you like poking little holes in paper.
After I quit competing because of my eyes paper poking got tired fast.

I'm not saying it's going to happen but with a NDP government and the RCMP pushing them hard to ban anything and everything only a fool would say it's not possible.
A lot of guns have been prohibited in Canada to date even with a CPC government in place.

Bah! :( I won't tell anyone what to do with their money if they are on a tight budget, but c'mon!

Buy semi-autos, own them, shoot them, and hunt with them. If there is going to be a fight over our firearms, I'd like to see more of you with a horse in the race than not. The more people with these firearms the better!
Forget the election polls, the race hasn't even really started yet.

My XCR-M has proven to be a good moose rifle thus far, but I understand they aren't for everyone. That being said, I have shot elk with a Remmy semi auto in .308, and BAR's have always held a soft spot in my hunting heart too.

just buy a little ruger 44 mag semi and learn to get real close to the deer ,,nice and light to carry and goes bang every time ,,,,I have s thing for the R1 in 300 but thy are heavy ,,,just had to get my 2 cents in ,lolDutch
