Ok so here it goes...I live in Northern Ontario (Sudbury) and hunt deer only on crown land (private land mostly on Manitoulin Island) This morning I went out and figured I'd grab a high vantage point point on a pole line. I saw a nice 6 point buck at 400 yards, but didn't take a shot. This is the second season for me hunting deer. I do not own a quad (only a 4 X 4 truck) so I'm pretty limited I guess, as to where I can hunt. I know there is another thread on here on hunting these lines, but are these my best bet up here, as hunting farmland (that is so common in Southern Ontario) is out of the question? I've also seen alot of deer browsing in fresh clear cuts. That's another good option? I'm just getting frustrated, as I've had no luck in 2 years.

deer move around on trails they know and feel safe travelling. Find a trail, set up by it, and wait for some dinner to walk by and shoot it. Thats all I do.

patience bud, it takes me around 100 hours per year to harvest the buck i want.

Ageed, I have been hunting 3 years, I have only shot my bow at one (overshot), and seen 2 others, I have been out about 20 times over the 3 years. I wish I could dedicate more time, but that is life.

This year after setting up we dropped 2 in the first 20 minutes on the first day... Its all about being in the right place at the right time, experience and research will help you pick that place an time, but there is alot of random luck involved as well

why do they call it hunting? :)

dont limit yourself, go out and once you do shoot one start calling to find out who really is your buddy, owing a quad doesnt make one a better hunter
dragging deer out of the woods is a workout and a half, did it yeasterday and I feel Ill be sore till Friday :(

Thanks for all the advice. First off, I don't own a treestand, so I'm really leery about setting up around game trails. This morning I trotted up a power line, where I had a very good field of view (600 yards?) I was near the peak of a mountain. Does anyone believe in grunting? I own a Quaker Boy brawler tube and a Primos "The Great Big Can" estrus bleats. Should I be using these? Thanks in advance.....sigh....I wish I had a teacher....lol

I believe in grunting, I do it all the time while I'm dragging my deer back to the truck!
