Hunting Dogs!!! Post your pics & stories!!!

Our newest family member, Tessa and her first puppy photo when she joined our family

At roughly 6 months and showing it's going to be difficult proving to her that she isn't a lap dog.

And a quick photo of her this morning at 9 1/2 months on her 1st Christmas.

I 'think' for the most part,;) she'll be 90% pet and 10% hunting dog:).

I have owned a lot of stupid things in my life but this one takes the cake. Hogs the couch, bed, whatever you are on. She thinks she is a lap dog and insist on sitting on you instead on beside you while applying enough pressure to attempt to enter inside your body.

Doesn't jump on me, the wife or the kids....just random strangers.

Oh you don't have enough time to take me for a run today. I am just going to vibrate beside you until you cave. (We now employ a dog walker)

All said she is an absolute sweetheart and we love her to death.

this is my dog Echo.

actually, he is my dad's dog. my dad trains dogs as a hobby. we've had a dog since i was a kid (echo is our fourth dog) but i never went hunting until this season. watching echo work is amazing.

What breed is that?

I am not sure if this would be up anyone's alley but this year we (Northern Ontario Labrador Retrievers) have put out a calendar.

You can send me an email if any one is interested in one.

A few of the months of the year. The dogs and pups pictured are only our dogs and the pups we have bred over the years.

Tough day, we had to put down my daughter's Shepherd Dax who grew up with my older Britt Chip. He was 11 and had been having intestinal difficulties and was in too much pain to continue ,though it was the right thing to do it was still painful to do.

Sorry to hear that hunter2454, are you getting another shepherd? I find that getting a pup right away helps me over the grief...

I have another Britt I've found having another dog already helps. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

My condolences hunter5425. Remember that you gave Dax the best kind of life a dog could ask for. But more than that, always remember that you were there for him when he needed you most - to help him to let go at the end with all the dignity that he earned through a long and faithful life as your cherished dog. The pic of him "surrogate parenting" the little brit pup is a heartbreaker and you can see what a gentle soul he was. RIP Dax.

On the way back from snowshoeing yesterday, I posed to try to get Pearl to look at the camera for a pic, but the yotes were howling and distracting her.

So she broke free to do a litte barking of her own!

But finally, settled down for her portrait (amazing what a lab will do for a cookie!)

Luckily, Pearl and I love winter equally. Having a great time out in the woods, but I leave the swimming up to her - I'll pass until summer!

March 18th East Coast snowstorm

Man oh man, we just keep getting HAMMERED here. 12 days 'til fishing season, and I can't even FIND my canoe, let alone even THINK about using it! Pearl is lovin' it thought! Halifax was shut down today - pretty much nowhere left to put it...

Not so much snow here but the weathers gotten cooler again. Taking the dogs for a run today so maybe I'll get some pictures so your not here by yourself. :)

Looking to get back into the world of Labs. Black to be specific. Lost the last one at 10 yrs or so to Blasto. Hit the familly pretty hard. It's been about 8 yrs since then, so I do believe it's time for a new pup.
Anyone know of upcoming litters?

Lots of breeders all across the country, it would be helpful to know where you are and what exactly you are looking for? If your requirements are just a black dog that might like water and hunt there are many desperate for adoption at shelters.

Thanks for that. I am specifically looking for a purebred Black Lab Pup. Brand new, 8-9-10 wks old. I don't fly but I can drive a long way. Mid Saskatchewan to all of Ontario. I know there are lots of kennels out there, just thought the folks at CGN would like to offer some suggestions.
