Trying to find a good pair of gloves.

My fingers are medium, but long my palms are xxl

So far, even on the coldest days, cheap cotton gloves are the warmest for me.
The fancy new gloves make my hands sweat, and then they get very cold. Once these gloves are wet on the inside, they don't dry out well.
Maybe if I could actually FIND gloves that fit it would help.
XL I can get my hands in to, but XXL? where to find them? and I NEED to try 'em on. If they are tight on my fingers, it's no sale.

The best I've come up with a set of wool-like fingered mitts with the flip back cover over the fingers and a soft leather palm. Bit bulky, but with the cover back, I can finger the gun ok, and the cover bit has velcro on it to hold it back against the back of the glove. A Canadian tire purchase. I too have expensive camo/doeskin/ultra etc gloves, but they're not as warm. I have worn light woolen gloves in the past, with a mitt pullover for the in-betweens, but then, my hands are fairly normal sized...

Sadly, I've tried those too. They are, at least the ones I've tried so far, tight around my fingers to the point they cut the circulation. Result, palms warm, fingers numb with cold.
Yup, I may have some circulation probs. On the meds ya know.

if all else fails.....do as ive done in a pinch...
take a pair of heavy duty wool socks..and cover your hand..the socks ive got are as thick as hell..i,ll bet you cant even buy them any more that thick..
but they work like a charm;)
another option.....i saw at brass pro....them electric gloves..run by battery..i tried a glove on and they were not bad of a fit..said a recharge of batteries and your good for about 6 hours..

Yes, I tried those this year, and it may be what I'm stuck with.
They get sweaty inside too, and then cold, but the fact that they are loose on the hands makes them warmer to me than much more expensive types.
A nice loose fitting gortex type glove with a thinsulate liner. That's what I'd like to try. Even a removable liner. But that might make them more bulky.

well this may be a sort of different approach.

While watching the grey cup this year, the anouncer was talking about how the receivers wear gloves when its cold.

They wear a pair of latex "doctor gloves" underneath their usual gloves. It keeps them warmer apparently.

Now, how about taking the same approach. I think I am going to try using my dirtbike/quadding style gloves with doctor gloves underneath. My sister is a nurse, so the supply of latex gloves is endless:D

I think I am going to give it a try and let you guys know what I find out. maybe it only works if you are running around a lot and keeeping warm because of the circulation?? :dancingbanana:

lionhill, i used a set of gloves similar to those, and they were hell during the ML hunt back in november. First, on the quad ride, they got a bit wet, and it soked right through, therefore cold hands all day. Next, if your trying to put a cap on, you need to take off the entire glove; not good for a dud cap that you need to replace in a hurry. They should make a glove with the removable thumb.

Mitts are almost always warmer than gloves. You might do well to find a light pair of cotton gloves that you can wear inside a pair of slit-palm mitts. The key in part is that the fingers of the gloves can't be too tight on your fingers or they'll be cold. Football players use latex gloves under their mitts in order to be able to hold on to a wet ball...;) Latex on pigskin grabs much better than skin. Be careful about latex allergies.

You gotta tailor it to your own hands and style - i use something similar to lionhill and know many who do with great success. For others tho it's not the right choice.

The ones I have are actually sold as flyfishing gloves, and though not evident in the photo, the thumb is can be exposed. Mine have been submerged in a stream and were dry 20 minutes later. You need to get the type of material like polar fleece or equivalent fabric that suits the purpose and the temp rating. These ones have no blood flow restriction in my experience.

This is a better image that shows the neoprene hands, and the thumb opening.

Should get in the habit of throwing an extra pair of mitts and socks in your daypack in the winter - could save your life one day...

I wear a leather mitt, with a heavy wool mitt inside it. Perfect for hunting (just drop the glove when your shooting:D ) , quadding, ice fishing etc. It's the only thing that keep my hands warm. Those cotton gloves are fine if your walking short distances in the city, but in the bush you'll freeze your hands wearing them.

for all my cold weather hunting i wear camo neoprene gloves i got from walmart last year on sale for $5 reg $13 i think. nice and tight with rubber palm for grip and its easy to use a gun and calls. if u sweat alot just buy 2 pairs;)
