Just wondering what you guys use for a streamlined fall glove for grip & as a buffer to protect from that cold gun metal. I see CT has Mechanix gloves 40% this week which I've used in the past but there might be(always is) something better out there lurking.....

I use the Rocky fabric back/leather palm gloves. Wal-Mart had them on for $5 last August and I picked up to sets. They are very comfy and perfect for days -5 degrees and warmer. On the colder days I have a set of Remington gloves that I also got from Wal-Mart, for $20. They are winter gloves with individual fingers but the trigger finger is streamlined and better material is used to make it thinner to get in the trigger guard. They are very warm and very comfy, yet you can still shoot with them and maintain a possitive grip.

What ever you end up getting .. cut the velcro straps off if there are any !! That sound of pulling velcro apart is most unwanted in the bush. I find the velcro also has a tendancy to "stick" to my hunting clothes when you reach into a pocket for example, then when it pulls off .. there's that wonderful sound again. In my case, the rifle I use most has a hinged floorplate that accepts the magazine. With gloves of any kind on (even the really thin ones ..) there isn't enough clearance between your finger and the floorplate when you depress the release so you can't open it to insert the magazine ! You have to take the glove off and if ya got velcro straps ... well you get the point.

It's a bit of a dilemma for sure. Without the velcro I get a zillion pine & spruce needles into them - which causes maintanence problems of it's own right.

the new style velcro on the mech gloves is damn near silent. not an issue hunting. fantastic protection for you hands when climbing or having to use pines/poplar to rappel down slopes.

Mechanix gloves are crap. I go through a pair a month at work. I now use a pair of full leather dakota from Marks. Grippy enough to pick and load the gun, and offer much better protection.

I use a tight fitting leather glove with a pair of those wool gloves with the mitt fold-over. I can keep my trigger finger out and have the rest of my hand covered by the mitt part. -30 C demands more than mechanic gloves.:)

For cool days, unlined leather shooting gloves ...mine are Beretta.
Some find golf gloves work just as well.

For colder weather, lined leather shooting gloves.

For very cold weather, Thinsulate insulated Gore Tex hunting gloves.
Same for waterfowling, only they have a longer gauntlet collar. Makes picking-up
decoys and wrapping cords much less of an unpleasant task than freezing fingers.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Got a pair of Mechanix yesterday, washed them - played a round of golf with them this morning and they seem good to go. Don't know how durable they are for the long run - but they certainly look strong enough to survive 10-12 grouse hunts this season .......
