About 9 years ago, my boss, a fellow worker, and I were putting along a small country road gabbing and sort of looking for deer. Lo and behold we spot one just a ways in off the road. I bail out and walk in after the deer. A short distance in, the deer stops for a look. I shot the deer. My boss comes in to give me a hand and the fellow worker waits at the road. Along comes a farmer who owns the land, and pours it to the guy for hunting on posted land. Hmmm. We drove back and, sure enough, there was a NO HUNTING sign on a tree. Oops! I did some snooping and found out who the owner was. I phoned him and said I wanted to come out and apologize in person. I drove out to his farm. It turns out that one of his sons was the one who found us. The man said it was okay to hunt there, but he kept it posted to try to minimize the damage done by a$$holes driving through his crops. We had a good visit and I left. A few days later, I stopped in at the Dad's to wish him a Merry Christmas. He shook hands and said, "Wait a minute". He came back with a nice big frozen chicken and a big smoked pork roast and gave them to me!!! Well, that one turned out okay!! I believe the key was to have gone out and faced the man and made a sincere apology.
