Hunting Regulations Can Suck

That's the key!

The entire of BC crown land is my range; I don't have to pay range fees, I can enjoy walking around in nature, I don't get hot casings bouncing off my head from the guy next to me and there are no range nazi's to fly off the handle and harass me and everyone around because their 4 year 4 shot sighting in session on their .22 has been interrupted by the existance of someone else at "their" range

Everything you do in Ontario has to be paid for.
Example?

I sort of like to cross country ski. Haven't done it in the longest time, but found myself owning a set of skis and poles and decided to hit the snows. Turns out that all ski trails around Toronto are for $$, like $15 a day. Of course I flipped a bird at that nonsense and am skiing around the pond in the community for now. But this tells you that the only thing we don't have to pay for is breathing. :puke:

I really don't want to get into a discussion about aborigional hunting rights. The supreme court said that Metis people (including country born and half- breeds) have the right to hunt. If you want to talk about Hunting rights and aborigionals start another thread, I'm sure it will be an wonderful experience for all.

H WALLY, on your thread 34, you have it exactly right. It is the freedom to wander and just do what we want to, that is what we so cherish.
Regarding leaving the rifle at home during berry picking season, in all the history of BC, I doubt if a berry picker has ever accidentally been shot by a hunter. Other groups, or individuals, constantly use our backwoods. There are always liable to be just plain hikers, nature lovers and/or photographers, in the woods. When one has a rifle he/she must be careful and use common sense when shooting it. In years past some groups of people want it mandatory for hunters to be in blaze orange, or similar. The game department's argument against it was always, "What about all the other people in the bush, it would just make it damgerous for them."
To me, any trip in the bush is much more enjoyable, if there is a rifle on a sling over my shoulder.

It's far less anal in the west, plus seasons are far longer than in Ontario or PQ.

That being said, in the summer or dead of winter, I generally don't bring a rifle with me.
really? less anal eh? Martin, we can carry rifles or shotguns, can party hunt for all big game, can bait for most if not all big game. Granted, we may have shorter seasons in some respects, but far from more anal?. Only someone from out west would assume that.

In Ontario its not illegal to carry a gun while the seasons are closed. It IS ILLEGAL to carry anything bigger than a .22 rimfire while a big game season IS OPEN, unless you have a valid license for said BIG GAME.

If you're only carrying a rimfire during a big game season, then it is accepted that you are only hunting small game.

Exactly. But as sealhunter said, I dont carry a fishing rod in closed fishing seasons. I have lots of areas I can go and target practice with no headaches, so why bother trapsing around crown land in a closed hunting season with a bunch of big game rifles? We can, but why not use more open locations where your actions are less inconspicuious, and a Cop, or Co couldnt assume much from what your carrying, or doing. With regard to bear protection,
Sounds like more bears need protection from us than we do from them from most of the stuff I've read on this site over the years. We dont have grizzlies in Ontario.

Although you can carry a .410 with slugs, as they're not legal for big game anyway.

Incorrect... you can use slugs, but no shot... If you notice the regulations all reference "with shot" in ontario with regard. A slug is legal, but... with less thump than a 38 special, why would one bother?

Yep, my bad, you can use the slugs, just not the shot.

Our moose seasons and deer seasons in the northern areas are over 2 months long for rifle, and almost all archery areas for deer are over 2 months long. I don't consider that short by any means.

In most southern areas we're tripping over deer, so 2 weeks for gun season is plenty to fill your tag, and I can buy up to 6 more deer tags for archery/muzzleloader season as well.

Your kidding right?

Ontario isn't that bad people. Do you honestly think that all of Ontario is like Toronto? please.... I've lived all over Ontario and I can tell you where I live right now that there are many freedoms. I can pack my 12 gauge for bear defense, our seasons are long "so what if we have to wear that ###y orange, hell I like it :)" and a small game license, well... just seems logical to me not to mention that it helps to fund our natural habitats.

Only thing I do hate is our game draws!

Before you trash us.. you should really consider seeing the beautiful parts of Ontario and maybe even hunting those parts first ;)
Good people here, beautiful country here and amazing hunting and fishing!

Really :confused::confused:
I don't cross country ski but if I did I can walk out my door & ski for a thousand miles I suppose NO COST! I shoot when ever for free!

Perhaps you should consider there's much more to Ont than that ####hole toronto !

As the thread gos astray, amy I suggest someone start a thread on native hunting rights, rather than battling it in here amongst just a few of us.
If it is a thread, a lot more posting by both sides with oppinions will happen.
