Any ideas what's going to happen to our hunting seasons?

Do you think they will cancel hunting due to the outbreak?

Thoughs?

If anything they should stop all out of province hunts and make everyone hunt locally ..live in a city ? Sorry no hunting for you until this clears up.. it’s unfortunate but you know they aren’t going to allow hoards of cidiots race out to every small town in the back country of each province and spread this virus like a wildfire.. it’s *mostly* contained to cities if you’ve noticed...

Weird post.....I don't know anyone that hunts in small towns.............for a number of reasons. 1st is that you can't "hunt" in town because its illegal and 2nd not many deer walking around town either........
f:P:2:

I prefer to hunt in the bush and the mountains where its legal, there are lots of animals and almost no people to speak of......
There is a better chance of catching Rocky Mountain spotted fever than Covid-19 out there.
I can head out of the city and go to my hunting grounds, hunt all day, harvest an animal or not, and then head back home and never come anywhere near another person unless I'm with a hunting partner. The chance of catching or passing on Covid-19 is close to zero.

It's currently business as usual in Alberta for hunting and fishing as country bumpkins are thankfully not making the important decisions here......

well no gatherings of more then.... what 4 or 5 people that is going to put a damper on 'hunt camp'

oh wait we don't hunt that way, and I solo hunt mostly so that covers the social distancing

I can see provinces that are 'hunt camp' hunting cancel hunting season or put on some heavy restrictions on 'gatherings'

I 99% do solo hunts. Even when I hunt out of province or in the USA, I normally see one or two humans a day, sometimes they're dressed in orange and a few hundred meters away...

Still, it wouldn't surprise me if most provinces shut down hunting since the average person is f&cking stupid and guys/gals will still gather en masse and go hunting/fishing, all bunched up. Guys like you and me will be penalized...

If they cancel hunting season I will most likely cry like a baby.

Nobody wants to see a grown man cry.

Same here.

...and then I'll go hunting! :D

I've been eating my venison up at a rate that will use it up by the end of summer so there had better be a hunting season this year so I can resupply or I won't be a happy camper.......:(
Honestly I can't see them actually canceling the season in Alberta as it wouldn't make any sense but of course that doesn't mean it couldn't happen......anything is possible these days............
We have hunting draws here in Alberta that you apply for in June so I would imagine if on the unlikely event that the powers that be were going to do something to the hunting season we would know by then.........in theory.......

I can see many outfitters being effected, many have hunters and guides eating and traveling together, which makes social distancing impractical. As far as people not staying in hunt camps, or hunting with guides goes, in most cases they can still maintain social distancing while hunting.

Ask Doug Ford.
He has been more of a leader than Justin Turdo has the past week.
And that is saying alot for a guy who doesnt like Doug ford or his policies.
But, being from BC that doesnt mean much either.

I've already done a couple of snowshoe hare hunts over the last three weeks. I go with my daughter and brother. We all live in the same house and have never seen another person when we went.
If we came across someone in the bush, we would keep our distance and wave hello.
Thinking of getting some snow geese and maybe really trying to locate some wild boar.

I don't know . In central Ontario , what Toronto calls northern Ontario guys go to hunt camp together crowded in small camps with everyone sitting , sleeping , eating and breathing right beside each other and everyone takes a turn butchering and handling the meat along with shared groceries and camp duties . Since no one down there seems to know that northern and north western Ontario even exist it would be fairly easy to shut down hunting season with their blessing and the blessing of the OFAH . There is no tradition of hunt camps in northern and north western Ontario except for the few southerners who venture north of North Bay and Sudbury .

I believe if both levels of government allow hunting this spring for bear and turkey, it's then probable for this 2020 autumn season.............not unless a significant amount of hunters become infected by the virus this spring.

Everyone is watching closely but nothing being said yet. They will want their tag money and we can hunt and follow the protocols currently established. Think they will let it go, pretty big money in BC.

If anything, rather than shutting down hunting specifically I wouldn't be surprised if we just go into lock down for a few weeks, which will effectively end hunting seasons for anyone who can't just walk off their property and hunt.

As for solo hunting, that's great but unless you live close to where you hunt, bought tags etc online and don't need to pick up any supplies or get gas otw, you run the risk of exposure. Every time you stop somewhere, every time you need to pick something up, that's one more time that you're exposing yourself and others, which could then lead to you bringing it back to your home and infecting the rest of the family. Is that a bit extreme? Yes. But is the risk worth the return? Only you can answer that for yourself.
