Hunting Seasons - Pandemic Hunting - ????

In bc campfire are still good from what I gather, large burn piles are not allowed. As for a campfire alternative, with all the forest fires and fire bans we’ve had for the past 2-3 seasons a lot of people switched to propane fire pits. While it’s not the same as wood it’s better than nothing and you can still roast weenies etc over it, Coleman stove for actual cooking.

Yupp. I just bought a propane fire pit the other week. It's not a real fire, but boy does it help raise the spirits when you sit around that in the yard (or even carport if it's rainy).

As for the hunting, you are lucky that you are so close. I'm not. It's well over an hour from my front door to gravel, nevermind far enough up the gravel to really be hunting... And that puts me in a dilemma. On the one hand, if I'm going hunting then I'm going to be away from people, but on the other hand I'm going to need to stop for gas at a minimum once, probably twice (cause I'll want a full tank when I hit the gravel and then I'd want to fill it back up while I'm still out in the valley where it's cheaper otw back, plus I want to keep the tank pretty full these days), and that's ignoring the usual stops for snacks or lunch or whatever. Then again, I have to go grocery shopping and my risk of exposure is far higher there...

Fire bans generally don't include fires related to food preparation, but you never know. I personally wouldn't worry about the fall of 2020.

As far as hunting in Ontario this spring or this fall. If they continue bans on numbers of people congregating, that's your only concern.

Ontario is so reliant on provincial fees to float this place they'll never stop licencing, that's why the LCBO stays open.
They close liquor stores and we're bankrupt in 3 weeks

They left liquor stores open to make sure ER's don't fill up with people going through withdrawl.

My group and I were set up for some guided turkey hunts. We were contacted by the guide last week and was told that all hunts were cancelled until at least May 25th. Sad times right now. I hope things get better in time for small game/upland season.

To our hunting and fishing community in Ontario, we are listening to you! We know you have many questions. Keep asking them. We are in this together, and our staff are working hard to support you.

Can I hunt and fish in Ontario?

✅ At this time fishing and hunting remain open in Ontario. All rules and regulations are in effect. Conservation Officers continue to patrol and protect our natural resources during the COVID-19 outbreak.

As COVID-19 is an evolving situation, we must all follow the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and act responsibly.

Before you head outside, do the following:

Check for #local restrictions on outdoor areas
↔️ Practice physical distancing - stay 2 metres from other people
❌ Do not gather in groups while fishing, hunting, and hiking

What if I purchased a licence?

We are looking into the issue of licences that were purchased but can’t be used due to local restrictions. We will have more information about this soon. Stay tuned!

How can I stay up to date?

We will provide frequent updates right here and will be sharing the same messages on www.facebook.com/FishWildlifeON.

You can also visit Ontario.ca/hunting and Ontario.ca/fishing for up-to-date information.

Thank you everyone. Stay safe. #COVID19

too many people rely on hunting to feed their families to close the hunting season. besides, pretty easy to maintain the 6ft distance in the bush. In BC they are asking people to "Stay Local" but its not enforced.

Fishing, hunting and a thing all cancelled for 2 more weeks here. You still walk, jog or bike a city trail but no going into the wilderness alone.

Here in BC in the outfitting business we’re bracing for the season to be closed. But there’s no way to tell what’s going to happen a week from now right now, let alone four months and beyond.

Being outfitters......I think it could be a bit of a rough ride this year.
Lots of rescheduling.

Indeed, as even if the season is open, clients won’t be able to plan their travel in advance needless to say. And that’s fair, but it means the effective closure of the outfitting season for all clients that can’t drive from the neighbouring provinces or lower 48 states in our case. Much of our clientele is Aussie/Kiwi/European so this will be a challenging year. This all said I think we’re all in the same boat and just face different challenges, this is going to severely disrupt the global economy for a very long time for the majority of industries.

Maybe we should just approach our respective provincial departments and see if they would be interested in procuring our outfitting services as 14 day isolation packages with a bear tag tossed in. We have BIG back yards clients could play in and exercise social distancing!!!!!!

Other than power boating sounds kind of ridiculous.
Fishing from a canoe or bellyboat alone you can catch a few fresh meals and therefore shorten the line ups at Walmart.
A fella eats better yet maintains social distancing.

In Alberta they released OHV and campfire restrictions and then tailored them a day later after the outcry.

My guess is 'Berta huntin' will remain open this year, particularly with our reinstated friendly Blue government.

Closures for legitimately busy/problematic parks, lakes, golf courses, boat launches might be needed, but closing whole seasons and empty backwoods?

Hope everyone is able to enjoy their seasons, generally no real risk to anyone for many of the opportunities.
