I've heard it a few times now that military FMJ ammo is more powerful than the commercial equivalent therefore you should never use military ammo in sporting rifles. I've also heard that the current military ammo (I'm assuming they mean 5.56 mm nato) is so fast that it kills by speed alone.

If you throw a bullet into the fire it will blast off rounds ie the movies when the ammo box catch's on fire.

That is not a myth entirely. There are many rounds in military calibers that were designed to be fired in machineguns and exceed SAAMI specs. And yes, some of the regular milspec. rounds are hotter than civy correspondents, but the big one is machinegun ammo.

Just thought of another.
Now this was touted from a guy I know, and used to work with. He's a guide of some repute(good and bad), he stated that " the 7mm Rem. Mag. is the biggest wounding calibre in existance".

How about the old "You can tell a deers age by his antlers" I still hear variations of this one to this day and it drives me nutz!!!

"Look how dark that deer is, must be a Swamp buck" Whatever Clem.
Here is one that gets the spechul award in my book... "Deer always walk into the wind...." Well there must be one big bunch of deer Piled up against the Pacific Ocean then bubba!
