Hunting/Shooting, Myths and Misconceptions

One that I used to think about as a little freaky, but true is that an instant kill at a decent distance happens to the animal in silence.

Basically no bang is heard by the animal.

If you were shot accidently in the head by a stray bullet, you wouldn't even know that anything had happened.( assuming it was still going supersonic)
There is a saying:
"You never hear the shot that kills you"
This probably applies both to the fact that there is a major time diffence between the shot and the sound at ranges over 50yds. And if you were shot in a vital, and didn't die instanly, you likely wouldn't hear anything on account of SHOCK.

True? I don't know.

I have been doenrange of a 250yd shot before, I gurantee you you could die well before the "boom" was heard.

Sorry... but I have never seen a hard deposit of any kind in hundreds of deer hearts.
I have researched all my books and looked everywhere on-line and I cannot find one reference to it. I am gonna check with a biologist I know who has done several Moose and Deer studies to see if he can shed some light on the heart stone.
Very interesting.

Shame on you BIGREDD, everyone has heard of os cordis.;) scroll down

Joe-NWT Next time you bump into one of the old natives up there ask him about the bone in the moose heart. The Indians consider it to be a good luck charm.

I would have sworn os cordis was only a bovine trait, and didn't show up in ungulates, never mind otters. Well you learn something every day.

Yup when your wrong your wrong... thanx for the link Foxer and I apologize for my ignorance.
