There is a saying:
"You never hear the shot that kills you"
This probably applies both to the fact that there is a major time diffence between the shot and the sound at ranges over 50yds. And if you were shot in a vital, and didn't die instanly, you likely wouldn't hear anything on account of SHOCK.

True? I don't know.

I have been doenrange of a 250yd shot before, I gurantee you you could die well before the "boom" was heard.

Joe-NWT Next time you bump into one of the old natives up there ask him about the bone in the moose heart. The Indians consider it to be a good luck charm.
 
I would have sworn os cordis was only a bovine trait, and didn't show up in ungulates, never mind otters. Well you learn something every day.
