Hunting Tips And Tricks

To get pitch off your knife, use peanut butter. I wouldn't be surprised if cooking oil works too, but I've never tried it. Peanut butter definitely works.

Watch Compass: If you have no compass but have a watch, you can tell direction by holding it flat and pointing the hour hand toward the sun .South will be located halfway between, the hour hand and 12 on the dial. Even on cloudy days a stick or straw held at the rim of the watch will show the direction of the sun by throwing a faint shadow.
And if lost climb a tree(careful) or high ground in the area , to look for smoke, or other man made sights and sounds.
Once gave my compass  to a hunting partner , and headed out into a swamp, raining hard, dark coming on, only way I got out, could hear the jets doing run ups at an air base :D trains cut through wilderness areas also ;)

When you're ready to move on, look at your watch and make yourself wait 10 more minutes. Amazing how many shots I've gotten during that 10 minutes of waiting;-)

Well been at it at close range for a few seasons :) and that may work just fine on deer decoys ;)
I would stay as still as poss. , no direct eye contact (just cause it bugs you out more than the deer):D the deer is looking , but not seeing , it will relax and turn. Thats your time then, Or it may have made you, and you will soon see a departing animal.
Never ever take a bow shot with an alert animal, it will jump the string, sure as sheit.

You must be hunting really stupid deer.... or using a really slow bow.:bangHead: ;)

P.S. They don't jump the string... they dive.

LOL, thats what its called RED  ie react to the sound of the bow string letting loose (compounds are so noisy, don't use 'em:p ) so they get the jump on your shot.
Yes they do drop down, and I can't remember the numbers, but its amazing fast, sound/reaction thing.:D Most likely been covered online bowhunting web , somewhere.
But yes , they are fast , even can escape a short mag bullet. :D ;)

Chasing cattle with a Chilcotin cowboy a number of years ago. He found a pitch ladden piece of wood around 10 and carried it til lunch. One match and he had a fire going in the snow in a minute. Scrape dry pitch into a pill vial makes a great fire starter and can be carried for years - generally the vial breaks first and your pack carries the scent of spruce forever.

Deliverance

Always watch the wind.

My personal favourite.........

If you hear banjo music coming from the woods, run as fast as you can and go home:D

Makes great incense for the house as well ;). Surely one of the best fire starters out there......

Funny but true. When pissing on hard ground, your bound to get some splash back on your feet. There's nothing more tell tale of human presence than the smell of that! Heck, some companies have made millions on selling the right kind of pee.

When nature calls, aim over a log or against your partners tree stand.

See all the neat stuff we're learning. While we're on the subject; a good place to put your butt wipe paper, while in the full squat position, is in your under short, that are around your ankles. That way it doesn't get wet or out of reach.

Your GPS may not be much help in bad weather, have a compass and map backup, when using that compass try not holding close to anything battery operated, they tend not to like that too much.......
