By hunting we mean going after deer, moose, bear or elk.
Not a camp gun, back up gun or bear defense.

Can somebody set up a pool:rolleyes:

How many 45 70's guys will be hunting with your 45 70's using stock sights?

How many 45 70's guys will be hunting with your 45 70's using peep sights?

How many 45 70's guys will be hunting with your 45 70's using a scope?

Last year I hunted a bit with my Marlin, with Williams rear aperture sight.

That gun's sold, and I probably won't replace it this season, but I'll hunt with a 45/70 again, and most likely use an aperture sight, again.

my 45/70 i have both my stock sights, and a set of seethrough rings with a 2.5x scope. anything under 100 yards is with the sights, and anything past is with he scope. it took a bear this spring.

My Marlin '95 cowboy gun has a williams peep rear sight and a tru-glo front sight, I have some other additions....aDRC large loop lever and a leather lace on recoil pad, that and my very heavy loads will do for anything, if I point it right!

45-70

Yup, will be using my Marlin for bear this fall also :D and also as a backup/main gun for moose, depends on where I will be heading in the morning, (open area or dense wood).

I have a fixed 2x on it with quick detachable rings, easy to take off/on and keeps its zero. Got my first bear this spring with it :D,.

Good luck to all

I have fine tuned my old single shot , put a rear aperture target sight with 500 grain hand casts for my tree stand this year!
Going to take it for sure, never shotanything with it as yet?

H&R Buffalo Classic with a scope up top. One 405 gr Remmy pushed by a case full of Benchmark up the pipe, and a couple spares in a pocket. Should do the deed for deer.

I can't hack the stock sights on my Marlin GG anymore, just don't trust them past 100yards on deer and bear. I'll be swaping them for a Wild West Guns winged rear aperture sight and a Williams Firesight up front ASAP.

Ruger no.1 medium sporter with a Vari-x III 1.5-5. Havn't shot anything with it yet, but im hoping to fix that this season!

Ruger no. 1 with a leupold 1.5-5, and for the Marlin, Lyman tang sight and a weaver V3 1-3. Get a spike with my Marlin, never saw an animal react like this one after being shot...

-Browning 1886 carbine, using their standard flip-up ladder-type barrel sight common to Winchester carbines. Good enough for standing shots on steel-critters at 200m under ideal conditions, but the furthest comfortable shot I've taken with it on moose was about 130m. Firing on a moving moose on shore from a canoe in strong irregular winds wasn't ideal, but safe enough knowing the rifle's capability. The 400gr JFP put him down hard & fast. Since then I've taken a liking to the 300gr Win/Nosler CT Partitions, and have worked up a decent load with them that I plan to stick with.
-I prefer apertures for both improved sight picture and the additional sight radius. To that end I picked up a Riflesmith rear tang aperture model with a vernier scale on it but no micrometer adjustment screws. I plan to plot my loads and set one fixed 'longer' range setting on the tang sight, and use the tang aperture for amy long-range zero & the carbine barrel sight for close-range. Here's hoping reality closely follows plans?

Pedersoli rolling block. I may take it for deer this year. I have used it on pronghorns before. Black powder load and hand cast lead, the only way to go.
