Hunting with a modern rifle

Wow guys! Thanks for the replies!
For those wondering, no I'm not tacticool at all, I hunt with my Realtree AP parka.

Right now I've got a good old 30-06 bolt action, but I would really like a semi for hunting. I'm bored by the old style rifles and would like something more modern. I know it won't make any difference in my hunting skills but it's always fun to try something more modern.

For 40% paper, 59% varmint/wolves (no coyotes sorry) and... maybe.. maybe one day a moose (1%) , should I go with the XCR-M or XCR-L?

I ask because the XCR-M weight 2lbs more than the XCR-L. Should a buy an XCR-L with an additionnal barrel?

I dumped my 30-06 bolt action for a XCR-M and RFB.

For me a .308 caliber rifle made sense for what I intended to hunt. All comes down to what you personally plan to use it for. You could always get and XCR-L in 6.8 SPC if you wanted but not a cheap caliber to shoot.

I would not even consider using my -L for hunting moose as far as I am concerned no cartridge chambered for it including the 6.8SPC is what I consider a moose cartridge.

I'm not saying it would not work if everything was perfect I'm saying I wouldn't use it.

Keep your 30-06 for that 1%... ;)

A rock can kill a moose...you just gotta be close and hit it many times!!! The hard part is getting close and having it hold still!!!

Here is another pic of the tactical clothes I wear for hunting yes thats right I like OD greens mind you I wear the same hunting clothes no matter what gun I am packing.

just verify your hunting regs, I know in nb you can't hunt varmit with a caliber bigger then 23... it rism to be irrelevant as you will probably ecome addicted and buy multiple gun;)

just my opinion if 308 is ok to go and you want 308 for bigger game but don't want weight, the rfb is about the same weight as the 308 xcr but wen you shoilder it , cause of its length it feels like a 5.5 lbs gun

Cam, I love taking mine moose hunting just for the conversations it starts! We need to get more "black" rifles out in the field just for the PR , as someone mentioned, the more people see (educated) the better off we will be in the long run. And , yes, I don't tire of posting this pic.

Just like the true hugging anti that thinks you shouldn't hunt with a black rifle. You and them are very similar in attitude.

I didn't say that you couldn't hunt with a black rifle. I just caution people against making themselves, and by association me (because, you know, all hunters are the same), look like a dipstick.

I have both a black rifle and a Honda, though mine's an Accord. I needed the extra room.

I like many people just like the colour black. It's the new cammo for hunting. Small selection of some of my firearms. Only non black firearm I own is my S&W 500 Magnum. Sorry, only came in stainless.

What I or other choose to do is our individual choice and as long as its done legal who's business is it to criticize us for what we do?

Hunting with RFB is great. I used it for 2 seasons and i can't imagine hunting with anything else.. its so small and comfortable, and gets a lot of positive attention. :)
