hunting with a muzzlebrake without ear protection

Pussyfication of society. It's downright hilarious listening to grown men go on about how they need a muzzle brake on their 223's and others with minimal recoil. These people wouldn't appear so stupid if they'd just admit they use brakes for the "coolness" factor instead of lying to themselves and others that it's for recoil.

I could see them being used on guns that actually rattle your teeth, but it seems the majority are mounted on guns that a kid could shoot without issue?

You clearly have not spent much time spotting shots through high magnification glass... even a .22 LR can cause too much vibration at the shot... a steady rig makes shooting small varmints more enjoyable.

Nah, you guys aren't tougher than the rest of us... you're just only looking at the hunting applications and not the sporting ones. My favorite brake is on my .223/5.56 AR and, despite it being shockingly loud, it reduces the recoil by about 50-75% more than the factory flash hider did. You know what that means? Faster follow-up shots AKA lower split times AKA better scores. Don't worry, you don't have to understand that last part... Just know that people using brakes doesn't make them soft, it's just personal preference and different applications.

Sincerely,

A fellow hunter with no muzzle brakes on their hunting rifles either.

If the Caliber is mild enough that you can remove the brake or put on a less efficient linear brake, then I would go that route if you insist on shooting without hearing protection.

I sometimes hunt with a 50bmg, so a brake and hearing protection doesn't bother me.
