I ordered a new 7mm Rem Mag for a Caribou hunt this year and possibly a Pronghorn/Prairie Deer hunt in the next 2 to 3 years. The only scope above a 3x9 that I have is a Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm with mil-dot reticle, front parallax adjustment and target turrets. I haven't played at all with the target turret and would rather sight it in dead on at 200yd and confirm/practice at 300, 400 and 500yd without having to play with the target turret. Having said that, I'm really paranoid having those target turrets on a hunting scope, i'm scared somehow adjustment could be moved unintentionaly. Should / can I get regular turret? can you tape turret with electrical tape so it wont move or should I just get another scope?
Any thoughts or opinions? Please be gentle, my first cry for help. :D;)

They aren't as easily moved as you think and if you mark your zero point(if it doesn't have) on the turret you can easily dial it back if it does move.I have walked through the bush with mine in moose country and never had them move. You need two finger to move them a branch or stick will not twist em.Try adjust them with one finger. ;)

Zero for 200 and then when practicing you now have hold over points and marker for windage hold off also.

I use a leupold mark 4 on my moose rifle, it's not a bush gun by any means, also on the very off chance the turrets move by accident, the return to zero function on my scope allows me to check that it is still on visually for both windage and elevation. It has much better glass then my other scopes I found it extremely durable

Why are you concerned that " The only scope above a 3x9 that I have is a Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm ". That sounds like you think a 3-9 is not enough "power" for a caribou hunt. If that is the case, that thinking is wrong. You can use the 3-9X and avoid all your concerns.

Why do you think you might need more than a 3-9X?

Oh Boomer, why did you have to do that. HaHa. I've got problems sleeping already. LOL Maybe I dont need more then a 3x9 for Caribou hunting, but I'm still going to set this gun up for hunting longer range, if I need the extra magnification I will have it. I have all kinds of other rifle set ups already, this wont be my only rifle for hunting. I just thought it would be easier using the mil-dot reticle if a 400 or 500yd shot presented itself? Keep it coming.

I wouldn't be as worried about the target turrets as I would the AO. I watched a buddy diddle with his adjustable objective this year on an elk hunt. It was cumbersome and time consuming for hunting situations. Just one more thing to be on the wrong setting at an inoppertune time. Food for thought, if you plan on shooting long range with plenty of time for setup maybe not an issue.

That Bushnell will work just fine for the hunting you're thinking of doing. I agree with the others, target turrets don't just move by themselves as easily as you might think. And if you're still worried, yes, you can just put a wrap of electrical tape around them to hold them in place.

On the other hand, a 3-9x40 with good glass is plenty for shooting well beyond 500 yards. I've used one to smack a coyote at 942 yards, as well as any number of inanimate targets out to well beyond that distance. I don't seem to have any trouble hitting 10" gongs, 10" rocks, etc, out to 1120 yards with a 6x scope. Plenty of competitors are shooting out to 1000 yards with aperture sights. As long as your scope reticle is fine enough so as to not eclipse the target at the range you're shooting, you're in business.

Good point, that was something else that bugged me.
I've also made shots up to 400 yd with a 3x9, that's not the issue. All my 3x9 are on other rifles, I just had this 5x15 and a 1.5x4.5 doing nothing. Even if I have the magnification, I dont plan on doing nothing stupid. I'm just looking at my options, I'm paranoid enough that I would end up putting electrical tape if I go with that one. Maybe a new scope if I have to? I really dont want to worry about anything except sqeazing the trigger.

My good buddy hunts with a 10X fixed with tall turrets on his .300WM long range set-up.
He's never had a problem with moving turrets that I'm aware of.
