Hunting with an RA XCR?

I'm Moki on Accurate Reloading...

Moki was my 12 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever that I had to put down last Oct 15...

Still miss her...

4 point and better mule deer bucks were all that were open in the area that we were hunting and all we saw were does and a few spike/2 point bucks so no luck this trip...

:)

My XCR-L in 6.8spc is finally broken in I shot a 2 point mule deer buck 5:15pm Monday Oct 4/10 shot was 166 yards hit left front side of chest just in front of the leg the 95gr TTSX passed thru lungs & exited behind off side leg deer dropped instantly.

My son shot an almost identical deer @ 100 yards about 10 seconds after I shot he was using his 270 Weatherby loaded with 140gr TSX @ 3200 + fps.

Son has the pics on his camera so I'll post them when I get them.

Seems to be standing up very well except for one spot on a pic rail near the lower front that rubbed against the brake fluid box on my quad didn't see it until after a trip kind of pissed that I didn't catch it in time to put a pad on the box.

Congrats to you and your son. Love the pics. Please keep us posted. Are you handloading your 6.8s?

Mine already looks like an old turd, my sling is chewing the loop to hell, it's been knocked over, dropped, shot in the rain, splattered with mud and put away wet and muddy. It's a tool, not fine china and it's still running like a Honda.

Any pictures of the old beater? I like pictures of guns with honest wear through use.

All I have is my iPhone and I can't figure
out how to attach or post pictures without all the 3rd party bs.

I forgot to mention my wife showed up to spend the day with us Saturday the 3 of us did a 60 mile ride on the quad to show her around the area, on the way back to camp we had an opportunity to do some shooting with our 3 1/2 year old son.

I have set him up with a 16.5" barreled single shot T/C Contender carbine in 22LR overall length is 26 3/8" he isn't capable of aiming properly yet but he loves shouldering the rifle and shooting it and yes he is wearing Peltor electronic muffs bought from SRS Tactical he never goes out hunting with me without them on.

While we were helping him shoot I had the bright idea to let my wife try out the XCR-L she immediately complained that it was too heavy and that she didn't like it but after 5 unsupported shots with her hitting into a 5" - 6" group @ 50 yards she started saying that she "really liked the gun and wanted to shoot it more and she was also very surprised at how little recoil it had...

I've been looking for a camp gun for her for several years now maybe I have finally found one she likes.

and to answer an earlier question yes I reload for the 6.8spc use H322 powder/Rem LR primer brass/Win LR primers been loading Barnes 95gr TTSX & 110gr TSX and my cheap plinker rounds are 110gr Prohunters I'd also hunt with them but would keep shots to under 125 yards they are designed for 270 Win velocities and are not designed to open up under 2300fps.

:)

Haven't a clue what they cost me but it is far less than any factory round ever will cost I'm thinking about 1/4 with fired brass - 1/2 the cost of factory with new brass I am also loading the ultimate bullet for the 6.8spc the 95gr Barnes TTSX that was designed specifically for this cartridge...

Here is a pic of my wife with the XCR-L when she came up for the day.

Edit to add... She was pissed at me one day a bit more than normal and made me remove all pics that had her in them

Finally first deer (yeah I know it is only a 2 point) that I have shot with the XCR in 6.8spc with the 95gr TTSX... :D

Sons rifles are 50 + year old Husquavarna in 270 Wby loaded with 140gr TSX @ 3230fps and a T/C Contender carbine in 22LR...

I am going to stay glued to any updated on the XCR-M. Speaking of the Kel-Tec RFB, anyone have any Accuracy reports. Lots on it great reliability, trigger and design, but no actual range reports on accuracy.

I'm not sure where you've heard the RFB has 'great reliability'? If you go onto the Keltec website there are numerous posts (and many MANY now deleted) of problems with the current RFB's out there. I know, I've been anxious about this gun for over a year.. and I wanted to put a deposit down on a preorder but it's not up-to-par as of yet. Once the problems are ironed out, I'll be all over one. As well, if they ramp up production, the cost should come down in the US, which in turn should be cheaper for us.
