Hunting with bare hands? Legal?

So today I was walking from my prking lot at the school campus to the University and I walked past the soccer field as I do every morning, and as usual, there were loads of big Canada geese on it. Today, 3 of them happend to wander out of the field and were right along side the path from the parking lot. I stopped and watched them and they got as close as 5 feet from me. I was thinking, since I have my migratory game bird license and Im not discharging a firearm, could I have just lunged at one, grabbed it by the neck and killed it? Maybe not the mose humane way to do it, but it would have been easy at the time. Is this something thats illegal or generally frowned upon?

Lol, best question ever award. I dont know the legality, but on a Campus full of lieberals it would be quite the spectacle I would imagine. Vid please.
Ohh and you will probably end up like the guy from the U.S with the hunting vids.
 
I'd start by seeing if that is a legal area to hunt, then venture down the 'are bare hands' legal road. The ON regs are as obtuse as the other provinces, but at least they are all online- and knowledge is power!
 
Just tell the Lieberals watching you have a goosette at home and she is
in dire need of company.
Then do the European deed at home.

Hmmm, well, you don't want to get caught choking the goose ( :) ) unless you know the regs., which I don't. I know I'd have to be pretty hungry to kill a goose no matter HOW I did it. Don't care much for them.
 
Very Illegal.

Migratory Birds can only be harvested by Bow & Arrow or Shotgun. (Federal Regualtion, so it covers all of us, no matter where we trip over Geese)

Oddly, when talking to both Environment Canada and Ministry of Natural Resources Ontario, they both clearly stated and confirmed "compund bow" was required, yet in the reg's, it states a Long Bow.

The EC page of Q&A even says a Compound Bow is legal -->> http://www.ec.gc.ca/nature/default.asp?lang=En&n=C7564624-1#12 <<-- contrary to what the Regulations state.

I think they main thing is that a Bow is used along with the Arrow and that we aren't just "spearing" them with broadheads as we walk past them.
 
When I was growing up in Wales, a lot of the boyo's would attempt to use the "huntin' with bare hands" defence when caught in delicate positions with local livestock so do be careful with those geese old chap ...

I can just see it on the news now. You grabbing the goose, spinning it around your head breaking its neck, then running away with a bunch of hippies chasing you down.

I've wanted to "hand hunt" geese for a long time, and still want to ... but sadly someone somewhere believes it's more humane to shoot them than slice their throat with a knife.

Still may try taking my bow out and shooting a couple. Will have to see if my arrows float though - they should since they are hollow ... hate to loose an arrow for every attempt :(
 
Yeah I probably did the right thing by not doing that. It was just a crazy idea. Ive never eaten goose before and after buying my migratory license for the first time this fall, I never really got a chance to go out. I thought this might have been my chance to get one this fall. I think you are all right about the liberals on campus. even if this was legal, Im sure there would be a campus wide outrage over it. Im sure someone would have seen too, since the side of the library facing where I was is made entire of glass and was full of people, 75 yards from me. There may also be a school policy about killing wildlife, who knows. Probably for the better that I don't attempt it. May also result in getting mauled by geese too.

Yeah I was thinking either breaking its neck or just going for my pocket knife would do the trick. Ah well, I guess a school campus is not the place for that. How come I never see a field full of geese where its legal to shoot!
 
If you are at a University, it is probably located within Town Limits - and as far as I know, just about every town in Ontario has a "No hunting within town limits" bylaw. So regardless of the legality of how it's killed, killing it in that location is likely prohibited anyways.
 
I was wondering about something similar, but more along of lines of throwing rocks. For example, there are woods behind my house, but in NL you must be 300 m from a house to fire a gun. Could I go back there and throw rocks at rabbits and grouse legally? Or maybe use a slingshot.
