Hunting wool jacket made in Canada

"made in Canada and at a more affordable price" made me laugh so hard!
That's an oxymoron. Canadian stuff is twice the price of the US, and about 4 times rest of the world.
And when you add 30-50% income taxes, I'm shocked anyone buys anything from Canadian places. Liberals and their agendas and approach have killed this country.

Taxing the crap out of Canadian businesses, weak tariffs on overseas crap and overtaxing the general populace turned the few Canadians who would like to buy stuff made here into cheap misers. We let other countries flood our markets with cheap junk and wonder why Canadian businesses can't compete.

You're right, Canadian stuff isn't cheap. Probably in part because we couldn't afford it to to be cheap with our weak dollar and out of hand living expenses, and probably because Canadian businesses have a hard time scaling up production enough to bring costs a little closer to Earth.

Donald Trump is also right, and we should be taking notes on how to keep Canadian money home.

I was gifted a Big Bill overshirt/jacket last fall, after helping out some friends load up on a winters worth of firewood.

A bit baggy on me, but warm, and I figure it's a decent product, if you are not an anatomical abnormality (ie: you fit 'normal' size clothes).

It replaces the wool surplus CF shirt that was my usual cool to cold-ish weather over gear, an unfortunate victim of pack-rats looking for nice nest material. More room and dead airspace inside to provide insulation. Was a mild winter, never saw need to wear heavier than this.

Would have rather had a larger YKK plastic zipper, than the metal one, but it seals up pretty well. Been pleased as heck with it. 80/20 or not.

If you really are outside the so called 'normal' size range, find some decent cloth, find a decent tailor or seamstress, and grit yer teeth, and keep repeating to yourself "This is gonna last me a LONG time!"

Personally, I think a nice wool jacket, with a removable high tech insulating liner/vest inside it, would be worth paying for!

I picked up a 100% wool jacket with no liner at Bass Pro about 20 years ago. I keep it by the door for when i need to run outside for something. I can wear one of those cheap puffy jackets under neath it for trips in the bush - or splitting wood. Once you wear wool items is tough to go back to the conventional clothing.

Just a quick update

I went to the tailor this w-e for a final ajustment before the built of the vest, i should get itvin 2-3 weeks

If you can't find what you want made in Canada ... A lot of good wool garments are sold to hunters in Germany and Scandinavia. When travelling over there I was amazed at the selection and quality. Prices were high but competitive with poorer quality Filson or LL Bean stuff from the USA. None of it was red plaid though, all loden green. I bought a couple pairs of good wool pants, very glad I did. You'd have to go on line search, and order.

Some of you may remember those old Army & Navy Surplus stores. In particular Sudbury, ON - had one of the larger stores that I'd been in and it was several stories high. It had one of the best selections of outdoor clothing, cooking implements, boots, mitts - most every kind of treasure one could want or need. I don't see those kind of stores anymore. And the newer big box stores don't seem to have the same quality as those older stores. I wonder if there are any of those older stores left anywhere...?

City surplus on notre dame avenue.

Would also be interested to hear if there’s anything similar.

Back in the early 70’s I had a green and black Mac made by Pioneer .It was awesome but very heavy with double yoke . I shrunk it by mistake so it did not fit me any longer . Miss that coat !

500$ is about right for what you are asking for. Go to all the goodwill stores you can and you might find something. What about cowitchen style with canvas duck over coat. Still won’t be cheap.
