I just Built a "Tactical" style hunting rifle. It did take 8 months to recieve but here it is.

on weatherby Mark V action. 30-378 Weatherby Mag.
Custom Mcmillan stock with titanium parts (hollowed out stock), jewel trig, custom Built Krieger 1/10" barrel. Tally base, Huskemaw Blue Diamond scope with custom dial to 1200 yards. bedding and so on.
Currently testing out 180grain Barnes TSX BT with Retumbo Powder..
ATM i am testing out different powders and bullet @ 100yards.. the best i got was .17" 3 shot.. but that was one time deal thing... most of shots will stay .5" but i do not use shooting mount or sand bags to shoot with it.

im sure Some people will say why the hell do you hunt with match grade benchrest rifle?? I specifically built this for both long range plinking beyond 1000yards for fun but also be able to carry around and use it as elk hunting rifle. The total package with scope weights at 9lb's so it is still on heavier side of hunting rifle but still light enough to carry around i believe.
The barrel was custom built to have the lightest possible match grade barrel so it is very thin for being " match grade. since most likes to have benchrest for heavier barrel. Im happy with the results + got a free water/shock proof case with it! lol
I have not shot anything beyond 600yards yet due to the "damn" snow in our side of B.C. but if anyone in kootenay that loves to shoot and waning to hit up mountains for long range, let me know!

Nicely done Kimmer82!

I like the fact that you went with the Bee action (well you went with a WtyMag - duh!). Did your Gunsmith had to put much work in it or was it fairly straight & true as a stock action?

I ran accross a very lightly used precision long range rig not too long ago and wouldn't hesitate one second to bring it out with me on a hunt where I know it'd fill the bill, both on the game size & distance, of course.

it took awhile to fit it cause it wasnt pre-made mcmillan stock and Krieger barrel.
They both were made to order specially the barrel is "extra thinned" with deep flutes for lighter rifle so it was little finniky to build.
The action, barrel, bolt has been cera koted black but i am thinking of re-coating to desert sand to match the stock.

I will be using this one for elk in Rocky mountain side where there are both long and short range.. so we will see if i get to see any game this year! lol

I'm thinking that eventually a lightweight 30/06 will replace that for most hunting. ;)

Someone once said to me in regards to heavy rifles and shotguns .... "Why make something that supposed to be fun, hard?"

.

9lbs is not a heavy rifle that is just a standard weight hunting rifle I remember a saying that Jon Sundra wrote in an article about those complaining about carrying standard weight 9lbs rifles "suck it up buttercup"...

I kind of did the same as the OP but all I did was buy a 26" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 300RUM mounted a Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40mm scope it comes in somewhere around 9 - 9.5lbs.

I loaded it with 180gr Scirroco's @ 3380fps but have now gone to 200gr Accubonds & 200gr A-Frames @ 3200fps.

Longest shots I have taken so far have been 550 - 600 yards longest shots on game are only 350 - 400 yards.

Some years a pal of ours here acquired an off the shelf Weatherby Accumark in .30-378, topped with a 4-14X Leupold Mark 4 scope. He worked up his loads with the old 180 gr XLCs (I don't think TSXs were around then) and nothing at a half mile was safe from that guy. You've put a great deal of thought and money into your rig, have fun with it. A 9 pound rifle is a bit heavy by today's standards, but not by yesterday's. I doubt it would be any worse than packing around my .458 all day, and might even shoot a tad flatter!

Guess the photo got deleted from imageshack. i'll repost teh photo for ya!
and yes it wont be my all around hunting rifle but while im younger, i wouldnt mind carrying this rifle around for a hike.
do it when you can!! lol

nice rig! If your smith charged you for a mcmillan I would have a word with him. Im pretty sure thats a Bell and Carlson medallitst stock, about $500 less than a mcm. Its a nice rig non the less, just somehting I noticed.

sounds like a good shooter.

i personally built it from mcmillan.
took 6 months to get it from mcmillan tho. the rods and adjustable cheek, butt plate are all titanium. the stock it hollowed out but strong enough to drop and hit grouse with it. lol
I did mod the afjustable cheek piece and buttplate for me personal taste so it might look like some other manufacture and i did hear it few times. haha
maybe i should just have saved some money and went out regular BnC stocks
