Some time ago I asked the following question:

"My father had a 4100 lightweight (1950"s) and it was drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. He had a Williams Foolproof installed. The gun is long gone and I came across a good one and thought I might set it up the same -- anyone know what number/model Williams will fit it?"
I was advised that the FP98 would be the right one -- sure enough, I confirmed that on the Williams sight and ordered one. Well, the sight arrived and it is designed to be mounted on the left side of the receiver but the gun is drilled and tapped on the right side. I assume I will have to get it drilled and tapped on the left by a smith or am I missing something -- as I recall, my dad's foolproof was mounted on the right? :confused:

It uses the Williams FPCGH,and it mounts on the right side where the factory holes for it are in front of the bolt.

Thanks woodbeef;
Apparently, Williams no longer produces the FPCGH or at least they don't list it anymore. Saw one on the Husky #### thread that looked like a FP98 mounted backwards although the insert aperture screwed in from the rear. upon looking at my FP98, the insert would be to the front if the mounting were able to be reversed -- although I can't imagine needing it as I usually leave them out for hunting.
Cheers, John

A M/98 can't have a receiver sight fitted on the left side because of the bolt release lever. The sight block is reversible. You should be good to go with the FP-98.

From Williams site;

1282 FP-98 For military Mauser, Husqvarna, Weatherby Mark V, right and left, and BRNO without dovetailed receiver.

After being reversed, It must look like this;

Yes. But the "real" thing to fit on a 1640/1600/640 would be the Lyman 57 HVA, but it's far from being common. Fits right on without the need of any further woodwork or removal.
