Actually, the M94, M96 and M38 are the same action. The M94 have a factory swept down bolt and the M38 is the same configuration while the M96 have a straight bolt handle. Hisqvarna used the shelved surplus M94 on their M46 and when they started manufacturing the M38, they used some of the unfinished actions to build their later rifles.Okay, I couldn't remember. I had done my homework at one time. I have a nice CG stutzen in 6.5x55 as well. Lots of guys seem to not like the m38, but they are sure slick rifles. I have a wartime m98 actioned coyote rifle...and man is it a clunker. (I won't use it to judge other m98s) I had a 1640 at one time, but good lord the trigger was beyond awful.
No. It's more like '52 - '54 while HVA started their 1640 (1953).Thanks Barbil for the info so late would be 1962- 64

LYMAN 48FN or 57FN. Check for the FN98 receiver sights.Makes sense just out of curiosity what lyman or redfield peep sight would fit a model 640?.
How can you tell it looks pretty clean to me?. Also what was the model 650?.Model 650, late model (1952). Someone added the fore end checkering.

What pictures would you need to confirm if it is or not?.That was a typo (fixed) it's a 640 and they did not have the front checkerig from factory
It can also be a replacement stock, but it's impossible to say it from those pictures
The inside of the stock, in the bedding area would have a letter stamped. The barrel channel and the bolt relase area might have one too. What pictures would you need to confirm if it is or not?.
