Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

Another 4100 joined the flock today -- very nice condition early one in 7x57 with steel floor plate and trigger -- unknown make date with serial # 1854xx. My first 7x57 -- I don't reload so input on factory options on what works in yours will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers, John

I agree, and don't waste any powder or bullets on spitzer bullets weighing more than 150 grains. The 1:12 twist just will not stabilize them.

Have owned five of them over the past forty years, and none of them will do it. Round nose bullets are fine, and the 175 gr Hornady, in particular is deadly accurate and effective.

Higginson has some 154gr Hornady RN in stock. This bullet is no longer made so will be hard to find in the future. I just bought 400pcs for my 7x57R.

The 140 gr Nosler Partition is a spitzer, and is very effective. You easily can get it beyond 2800 out of that short barrel, and it kills sheep and caribou like lightning. No doubt, deer will succumb to it the same.

Our huge bull moose don't do well against it, either.

Ted, that was a nice dude the 7mm met that day :)

John,
Think you better start relaoding.
If you absolutely want to go factory load, then go the European brands. Check for Norma, Sellier & Bellot or PPU (Prvi Partizan). If you can't get them them, turn yourself to American production... i'd say Federal may be your best bet with these.
As pointed, you can try heavier bullets but due to the low twist, they may likely not shoot so well (they even sometimes thumble...).

As a sidenote, (and bit OT) but a good HVA SXS Hammergun either in 12 ga 2 1/2" or 16 ga 2 1/2" and the guy below (RIP) was hard to beat at grouse and woodcocks.... even on geese, with a tad of thungstene...

I love my Husqvarna 4100 7x57 rifle so much it has dampened my interest in other rifles.

Just can't see the need to lust for more when I have the perfect rifle.

Besides, I have a 1953 Husqvarna FN action 270 for backup.

What do you folks think is the best option for mounting a scope on a M96, M46 or M46/A given the following criteria. Must have clean looking bolt, not some ground off hack job (ie keep the classic look) and scope must be able to mount fairly low (something like a Leupold 4x36 or 6x36).

What bolt would you use? What mounts? Would safety change - ie to a 3 position Winchester style be neccessary?

Thanks.

Ted - excellent pictures, as usual. Not to derail the thread, which exists to praise the various Husqvarnas, but I used a Brno 21H in 7x57 to shoot my biggest moose at about 200 yards. Two quick shots and the RWS 162gr KS did the job. Mind you the second shot wasn't neccessary - at the first shot he bolted, but stopped within 10 yards. At the second shot he tipped over. Both shots were behind the shoulder. I still have one of the recovered bullets kicking around somewhere. The 7x57 sure does kill game well.

Also, one more question - are the front sights on Husqvarna m/94 and M/96 based sporters mounted via a standard 3/8" dovetail, or something else?

Depends on models. The older models, M/46 and M46A or M/46B, use a different style. The M/640 have a ramp with 3/8" dovetailed front sight.

The older models use a smaller dovetail and enter at the front of the ramp.

As for bases and rings, I can't help much as my own rifles in these series are not d&t, but the easiest way to go is surely using Weaver bases (#55 rear and #46 front). If you want to mount the scope very low, you will sure need a safety - the easiest way to go is to install and aftermarket trigger with side safety or a new low swing lever designed for such.
As for the bolt handle, as the root of the existing handle is pretty high the way it is, you better cut it and have a new handle welded there.

I like the older M8 4x28. It's longer, so it fits easier. They can be found at very good prices and fit the bill perfectly for a vintage look. I'm putting one on my 270 Husqvarna.

Here's one compared to a VXII 2x7.

1899,
The replacement front sights were available through NECG but I recently heard they did not ship to Canada anymore.
It makes some time I did not buy from them, so you may want to contact them to really know.
The bevel base is 5mm / .200".

My SIL showed up here with this last night. It belonged to his father who was killed on a ski-doo when Jeff was 12. Jeff wants me to get the stock redone, but there are some cracking issues on the tang and forend tip as well so I think some bedding fix will be in order.

Nice old rifle, I didn't know Higgins sold this one.

Any one want to chime in .... please do.
