Most of the times this happens, it's because there is a lack of tension on the extractor. FBefore playing any further with it, just remove the extractor blade and gently bind the rear (the long thin surface) so it provides more pressure to the bolt head area.

Hey All, great forum. Didn't realize there was such a following for husqvarna rifles. I recently bought an HVR (not sure if this is Husqvarna) rifle at auction - I was impressed by the smooth action and beautiful stock. The auction read Carl Gustof 7mm Mag. Beyond that, there was no further information. I searched for more info after I bought but then got stuck again with limited info out there. The barrel markings say HVR - Carl Gustof, 7mm. I found that HVR stands for Husqvarna. Is this true? Also, if the calibre marking says 7mm is it a 7mm Mag? Any additional information would be welcomed including model, date of manufacture and reason for the ornate stock work. Pictures are in my drop box folder. Have a look. Thanks so much.

Hello Nallzie, It actually says "HVA" as in "Husqvarna". It's likely early 70's, I believe. This was during the transition from Husqvarna to Carl Gustaf, they kept the HVA name on the rifles for a while as a brand-recognition thing. The production of these has changed hands and is currently run by the Italian firm "Zoli" as an "AZ1900". I think the ornate inlays and grip cap on yours are someone's woodworking project, your stock is a "grade II" version otherwise (I've never seen inlays on one). I believe the barrel is hammer forged? The action is a "Husqvarna 1900" push-feed that differs from their previous rifles. Isn't it slick?

Your rifle seems to have started as a Grade III Magnum. But anyways, if it does not have sing of previously wearing sights, then, it's a Grade III Magnum if there were sights, then, it's a Grade II Magnum that lost it's sights.
The stock was modified with inlays and and the pistol grip cap is also an adding. The floor plate should have been engraved for a Grade III but if broken, they sometimes were replaced with a standard one.
The caliber is definitely 7mm Rem Mag. This rifle was made +/- 1975
Thank you Northern Skies and Baribal - great info. I’m still not 100% sure on the calibre though. I’ve seen the 7mm Mag engraved as such on other rifles so I’m thinking that if mine is just engraved 7mm then it may be a mauser (7x57). Thoughts? Is there anyone that has a rifle engraved with 7mm only? What ammo calibre would one purchase?
I personally would be surprised if it was a 7x57.... as per it would have been a (very) special order.. but nothing is impossible.. why don't you check the chamber size (it's easy to see how big the clambering is and you should even see the step for the case belt...) and the bolt head too... a 7x57 will have a bolt head to handle a .473" case head while a 7mm RM would be made to handle a .532" case head....
I have a 1600 in 8x57. The rifle feeds good but when extracting the empty the bolt pulls the case halfway out then release the empty case , I have to pull the case out by hand. I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask but I thought I would start here.
The bolt is removed a bullet sides in the with no effort in under the extrator, when the bolt is rotated horizontally the bullet falls out when the extractor is on the down side. I followed the link below but it is on 98 Mauser which is a little different. Thanks

Just received a new to me 146 with serial number 262**...it is in great shape but it has some work done to the feed ramp that I am wondering if someone can explain

Here is the rifle...open to more info if someone has...it appears as though the bolt release is color case hardened as well as the trigger...was this a factory touch or aftermarket?

Your rifle was built in 1939 and someone likely worked on it to "improve" or correct feeding issues... make a dummy and try it to see if it works ok. As for the coloured case hardening on the bolt stop / release and trigger, it's normal.

I need to post mine after this season when I can change the optic and mounts back to the weaver tip to sides. I feel weird hunting with a bushnell enagage 4-16x44 on such a such a nice rifle. To bad it's the only optic I had for this year....

Not sure we're talking the same thing here. You don't need to bend the claw back to the bolt face, but the rear of the blade where it springs and creates pressure ON THE SIDE (quadrant) of the case head groove.
