Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

My Husqvarna 1900 in 6.5 Swede is on the way.

Quick question to the HV hivemind. I'm reading up about them, and in a few spots there is a quite emphatic warning not to fire modern amo through them due to pressures.

My 1957 1640 in Turdy-o-Six does just fine with modern loads, and I assume the 1900 will be newer. Should I be worried, or this isn't an issue, assuming a barrel and bits in good condition?

Husqvarna models 1640 and 1600 both used a 1640 action. 1600 and 1640 models were made from the mid 1950s till 1967. The book Husqvarna Jaktvapens 1870-1977 lists only 8x57JS as caliber options, no 8x57S.

From what I can see, your rifle could be a model 1640 Standard or model 1600 Standard. Might be able to narrow it down if you have pictures of the entire rifle.

Go for it. The 1900 was designed from the start to fire modern factory ammo.

I load my 1900 6.5x55 to European (CIP) factory ammo pressure, which is higher than our North American SAAMI factory ammo pressure spec. SAAMI 6.5x55SE is about 50K psi max, the European CIP spec is about 55K psi. The 1900 will handle that without any issue at all.

Plane jane, but the griebling on the stock looks to be in good shape. Someone has removed the iron sights, but I will use it scoped anyways. The serial number is 380838, putting the manufacture at about 1970, mebelieves. Can anyone tell me anything about this scope and mounts?

Anyhow, I'm as happy as a little girl:

The HV 1900 arrived yesterday. First touchy-feely impressions:

I honestly didn't think that the 1640 could be improved upon in any way. I was wrong. Whatever HVA did to "cheapen" the production, on my particular rifles the fit and finish is much better on the 1900. The 1640 had a harder life, to be sure. Overall, both rifles are in a light-barelled sporter configuation, both shoulder beautifully, but the 1900 is lighter, snappier to point and aim and the stock is of better quality wood.

And that bolt! Wow! I thought that people exaggerated about the smoothness, but it's all true.

Cons? Got two, one's a quibble, the other is technical. The quibble is that the bolt release is in the trigger. Not a great fan of this, but also owning 3 Savage rifles, it's not a deal breaker. The technical one is that the 1900 has DRF vs the 1640 which has CRF, which I really like.

Pics soon. I plan to take it out to the range in the next few days to a week. Range report to follow.

For those that are interested. Just installed a Timney 301 Mauser 98FN trigger into my Husqvarna 1640 270. Pretty easy install. Had to file the sear slot a bit and grind out the stalk for the trigger to fit in, also bend the safety tab slightly.

and

Nitro (near the chamber).

2. The serial number is in the 170 000's

What you have is a 1640. Can't say which exact model, as per for that, I need a complete picture of the stock.

Technically "1600" only applies on the short barreled European versions. The action itself was called "1640" in HVA's litterature. The 1640 rifle version (the standard arrangement, means a 600mm barrel) is the most common configuration.

Don't mix the M94/96/38 made in 1900 with the modern 1900 version. Both the 1640 and the 1900 actions were chambered in Magnum calibers.

Thank you, Baribal. I realise that my 1900 is a modern action, from the end of production at the HVA factory. It's just that there's lots of fud about this on the interwebs. Thanks to you and to jethunter for setting my mind at ease.

Yes, there is a lot of fog in the internets about the HVA products and that's why I started that thread.

Here's some pictures. The 1900 is much darker in real life than in the photos from Intersurplus. The walnut needs a little TLC (a few scuffs and minor dings) but it's a lovely stock.

Baribal will definitely be THE resource here, but I believe the non-thumb notch ex-military actions actions (m/96 and m/38) were factory chambered only in 6.5 Swede (6.5x55), 8x57 and 9.3x62. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
 
Thanks AB3006, I believe we are talking about different animals but I could be mistaken. That’s nice 1900 you have there, they shoot great and carry even better.

I’m looking for the post war Non-military, no thumb cut out 640 series which use an FN98 action. They for sure come in the chamberings I’ve listed but I’m interested in if there were others.
