I am buying a hand cannon

Fired my 460V off at Phoenix today, rifle side of course.

My range buddy came in for a few shots and commented "That's just stupid! ! !" (in the best possible way of course).

Can't say I disagree but it puts a ear-to-ear grin on my face every time

i am still working up a load, and will likely not be there for a week or two with it.

we should hook up one day and put some holes in some paper.

Why did you use the rifle side?

Wow. It was everything I dreamed of.
Its not so much the felt recoil as it is percussion and muzzle blast.
When you shoot it actually singes your hair (or so it seems).

For a while I was feeling like I got punched in the nose.

I absolutely love it.

The only down side is phoenix range made me shoot it in the rifle range. So 40 yards. Un natural shooting position. Some not on paper :(

I can't wait to shoot it outside!

Great to hear the beast was all you thought it would be :)

Yeah, shooting inside at Phoenix isn't the best situation but still a ton of fun!

The pistol side at Phoenix is only rated to 1600fps projectiles. The 460 and 454 are well above that, usually other side of 2000fps

Kelly told me today that it is rated for 1800fps. I was shooting factory at 2200. I might reload to 1800, and perhaps shoot 300 grains. I hate the rifle range for pistol.... Plus, it really kicks you in the ass with the muzzle blast not making its way through the portal

Probably my favorite handgun is S&W 29, 44 Mag.

But if you want the "hand cannon", it's gotta' be the S&W 500.

Accuracy wise, just about anything I've put through it shoots well.

Definately. I have a selection of bean bags I use. Plus a piece of heavy blanket like paper machine wet end felt to protect the bags from the blast that comes from the cylinder/barrel gap.

lol i was going to get you to teach me how to shoot if that was free hand. nice groups nonetheless.

With that cannon, I can only wish. I have a target with a similar size group, ten shots with a 6" Python and light loads shot off hand. But, that was a ways back when I was into a lot more formalised and regular bullseye shooting. Eye sight was a little sharper then as well;).

the other guy in the rifle bay almost had his hat blown off from the percussion..... let alone my singed hair and dazed look lol
