I am buying a hand cannon

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Magnum Research BFR in 45-70. I've never fired one but handled one at WSS. You've gotta love a revolver that has a cylinder almost as big as a coffee cup. Now that is a "big bore"f:P:2:

Shot one with a 6" custom heavy barrel last week-end.
It was surprisingly pleasant to hold and fire. And accurate.
But I wore gloves, nevertheless (the loads were on the hot side).
Those BFR are really beautifully made.
PP.

Okay, I am going to buy a hand cannon. I have a couple 40's. .22's. But I want one hand cannon. For amusement. For the big bang. For the buck. And for the cool factor :)

COOL???

Sorry, owning one is not cool to me.

Learning to shoot it fairly well, maybe.
But there is always somebody at the club better right? The dedicated IPSC guy, hard core elk and sheep hunters, 1/2 inch groups with a .338 hunting rifle...

Damage to your wrist or hand? Not cool.
Alot of old silhouette shooters now wear wrist braces from when they shot many rounds of hot 44 mags.
Not cool.

Have you ever fired one? I find both the 500 and 460 Smith revolvers to be more pleasant to shoot than a 44 Mag Smith, either 3", 4" or 6". No kidding.

^ agreed (mind you I am limited to the 4inch S&W Mountain for experience) BUT that attitude is pure fail. If ya don't like? Don't shoot it! Jees....f:P:2:H-Cannons are super fun if one can afford to shoot them!

460s&w

Man get the 460 S&W its the best shoot three diff bullets and mine knocks the ten range right out with 45colt.The thing is a tack driver plus you can scare the life outta someone with the big boom of the 460.

I am honest when I say I reach tolerance level with the 44 Magnum but is it a "hand cannon"? My answer is no. There are many more powerful rounds that merit the title. Lastly, before you make the jump to true hand cannons look for John Taffin's critique on what shooting these true beasts did to his hands and elbows.

45-70 derringer is like a 12ga. wow

anyways, I dealt with a great member off this board, and picked up my handcannon last night.

Thanks Jeff

The Pfeifer single-action revolver is chambered for the .600 Nitro Express cartridge. This round, which dates from the early 20th century, is an elephant whomper so extreme that very few rifles have been made for it. The .600 fires a 900-grain bullet at 1,950 fps, produces 3 1/2 tons of muzzle energy, and is three times more powerful than a .500 S&W magnum.

The Pfeifer revolver weighs 13.3 pounds, is just under 22 inches long, has a ported 13-inch barrel, walnut grips, and gold-plated hammer, ejector, screws, and cylinder pin. The rear sight is adjustable, and the price is $16, 501. If you’re not man enough to hack the .600, you can get the gun in .458 Winchester, but you should be wary of also developing an interest in Judy Garland recordings and Broadway musicals.
Personally, I will wait until Herr Pfeifer comes out with a .50 BMG version. Watch the video to see the .600 in action.
